Waterproofing Wood

I am going to build my Chams an enclosure but was wondering how I can go about waterproofing the wood, is it ok to use a stain or waterproofing or just use treated wood?

Varnish should work.
An outdoor paint too.
I would use treated with the varnish.

When me and my roomate built ours, we used this.

it can be found pretty much anywhere that sells paints and stains. Its a little pricey but if you paint on small coats it gos A LONG WAY. Looks really nice and no mold has grown at all. I would recommend this stuff because its water based.

Stain and then polyurethane or the varnish is the way to go, you will also really want to think about poly and varnish as well with the treated lumber if and when you ever use treated wood, due to all the chemicals they use in the treating, which some include formaldehyde, and such.... I build my own and go with the stain and poly method, just make sure to air them out for a fewe days before move in day...

Don't use a water based varnish use Spar Varnish More durable and works amazing do about 4-5 coats and you got a waterproof cage
