Wart like spots on panther chameleon

Hi all,

My blue bar panther chameleon has had a wart like spot on his side for some months now, but since his last shed around a month or so ago there appears to be a couple more that have appeared, and the original one has got bigger and almost looks like a flower blooming, where it is openin up.

I have attached a photo, hopefully you can see it from there.

If anyone can advise what this may be, it would be a great help :)

Thanks

Welcome to the forums. This is a great place to learn about chameleons. I recommend taking him to a reptile vet that has chameleon experience. If you don't already have a vet if you tell me where you live, I might be able to recommend one.

I am in the UK. We do have a vet that we take him too.
We took him a little while ago and the vet did notice the spot but didn't seem too bothered by it. But I am a little concerned as there are a couple more now

A few trips to the vets and they are a bit stumped with what they could be. They have spread and worsened now. Here are a few more pictures. The lumps are like hard scabs. Really want to cure him of them but they don't seem too bother him. Any one got ideas or seen it before? Ive done lots of research but with no final out come

They look a lot like the growths my veiled chameleon had, which turned out to be papilloma virus. Especially if they're spreading, and that last picture looks exactly like a few that my George had. The only way to know what they are is to biopsy one or more of them - removing them and sending them to the lab for histopathologic evaluation. That's the way to go and anything less is just speculation and won't give you any definitive answers.

Thanks for your reply. I had a read through your thread it does sound like it could be the same thing, the vet did send a few samples off too the lab. The lab said they believed it to be fungal infection but didn't give me any details and said they want to try to remove them all in surgery next. But as they grown from under his skin im thinking removing them wont stop them coming through elsewhere?

Hello!
What was the solution?

@molnarp If it was a papilloma growth, there is no cure, only quarantine to prevent the virus from spreading to other chameleons. If you search "papilloma" here on the forum, you will see several recent threads on the topic.

papilloma virus I hope it's not that that can transfer to humans and other to repetiles in humans it's called HPV and can lead to this
