Sandy! I thought you were gonna let me know first if you found more than one :(

With the Ch. j.j.'s it's not so much about CITES permits. Kenya itself doesn't allow "game" species to be exported, unless they are farm-raised, which supposedly, these were. The fact that 95% of the imported Kenyan Jackson's and Ch. hoehnelli were full-grown at import and died within just a few months of coming in, leaves me with some doubts about their true source. Apparently shipments of Ch. j.j. in the past had been smuggled out of Kenya to another African country and then imported into the US and Europe.

Hopefully somewhere in this country there's a chameleon geek breeding these in his basement. We'll find so many they'll be selling like flapnecks.

Uh, oh. That may explain why c.j.j. keepers are in the closet. So, do I have to feel guilty and ashamed if I buy one? Or should I just "ask no questions, for conscience' sake"? :)

I'm really not sure. Everyone I've talked to seem convinced they were truly farm-bred, but who knows. Maybe the export/import process is just too rough on them....and they hang on to all of the animals they produce for a year + to reach adulthood....At any rate, from the accounts I've read, the standard Jackson's are far from being threatened by the pet trade, unlike some other chameleon species with much higher demand and a CITES import suspension in place.
