Walking on substrate bottom normal?

My Jackson's Cham Loki seems kind of odd. When I come home after 6 hours at school, I find him wandering the floor substrate of his terrarium and extremely dark. He lightens up after I come in and scrambles back up the branches. Why does he do this? Should I be worried?

Male. I'm not quite sure how old he is, probably between 6 and 8 months. He weighs 36 grams.

It's a screen/glass combo. 2 sides glass, 2 sides screen, top screen.

Maybe it's to hot and he is trying to get as far away from the light as possible. Jackson's prefer it a little on the cooler side.
