Walk in closet?

hello,

I currently have a 10 week old veiled chameleon. He is in a repti breeze mesh cage. He is currently on a table in my room, but we just got a new kitten and I'm worried it will get a little curious of him at night. We keep them separated duringthe day, but when we are asleep I'm worried he will get on top of the cage. Anyway wouldn't be ok to keep him in a walk in closet? I would keep the door open during the day for airflow, and place a fan in the room next to the closet door for airflow. I would mostly only close it at night for the kitten. Would he be ok like this? I was thinking it migh even be better since there is no traffic to disturb him. And it seems a bit cooler in there as well if I can close the door ( I live in a hot area during summer)

Mostly I'm worried about airflow, I was going to buy a small tabletop fan and place it in the closet just to keep the air up. What do you guys think?

How high is the cage up? My cage is next to my bed and with the hight of the cage and the lights on the top my cats do not try to get on top

Unfortunately only about 4 feet or so from bottom to top. My kitten is a big climber, I'm worried he will love climbing the mesh!

By the way, it could be very helpful if we have pictures of the kitten so we can give better advice on how best to proceed ;)(y).

If that's the route you take, I would definitely not aim it directly at the cage because a breeze at all times will eventually lead to your chameleon developing a respiratory infection.

Keeping the door closed all day would be bad because of all the humidity that will be in your cage. Lots of humidity in small areas tends to bring mold problems you don't want to even begin to deal with. If the door was left open at all times during the day then it might be okay.

I didn't even think of mold! Thank you for the input. I deff won't put the fan directly on him, i would point it away from him probably towards the oppisite wall just to maintain airflow. Of course I would keep the door open during the day and still keep the kitten out of the room while unattended. I would just keep it closed at night, since the kitten sleeps with us as well.

I'm a bit worried on the mold now. I was thinking of maybe lining the wall with a shower curtain or trash bag to keep it off the walls. I do mist regularly with a bottle, and have a dripper going all day, it has a nice drainage system under my umbrella plant (big Tupperware with holes under the pot, empty the water everyday)

He's very hydrated, I even catch him in the morning bathing under the warm water of the dripper. He even sits his head under it for a bit and gets soaked drinking a bunch haha.

I'm actually trying to get him better now. I have a reptisun compact bulb that I believe may have caused snow blindness. He kept his left eye shut and it was really swollen. I went and got a t8 5.0 linear and it seems to have helped a bit. I was worried in the beginning he had a eye infection, but it never had discharge or pus at all. And he didn't seem sick since he was still eating. Can't believe they still sell those compacts!

Also, would eve placing a fan in the closet door blowing air out of the closet work? Instead of having air on him?

Another idea...can you block the lower half of the closet doorway with cardboard from an appliance box? Go get one of the large shipping boxes or maybe even a piece of the smoothest wood or even a panel of plastic or fiberglass and make an insert for the doorway. Taller than your kitten can reach the top of and too smooth for it to climb. That way you can leave the closet open but keep the kitten out. You'll have to teach the kitten that the cage is off limits at some point too...scat mats or some sort of deterrent...start now so it learns to not even touch the cage.

That's a good idea! Yea I was planning on just keeping the door open during the day since the kitten won't be in there. And just close it at night, I think I'm just overthinking he won't have enough air in there at night when it's closed. But I'm sure I'm just paranoid. I also like the idea I can hang the basking light from the pole I hang my clothes. Since it's just sitting on the mesh right now.

Tempature actually seems a little cooler in the closet, I set it up with shower curtains along the wall to keep it clean and moisture off the actual wall. During the day since it's hot I will have a fan pointing towards the door atleast six feet away. I sat in the closet for about 20 minutes and it had a gentle breeze in there. Was nice since it won't actually hit the Cham, just bounces off the walls in the closet and gives nice airflow. I'm thinking maybe to set up one of my 80mm pc fans on the top side of the cage, to suck some hot air out in case it gets too warm. Let's see how it works
