Waldos eye and tongue acting up again

I had a thread earlier about Waldos eye and tongue not working correctly. He would close his eye for short periods of time, and his aim and stickiness of his tongue wasn't the best. It got better awhile after I administered saline drops and vitamin A. Here is a link to the thread.

However, the problem is back. It is also a little worse. His eye is closed more often and today while he was feeding, his aim wasn't too great. He would hit the cricket about 70% of the time. Last time this problem happened, Jim from CC said Waldo might just have a bad eye. After all, the eye that is shut IS smaller than his other eye. That might also explain him missing his food sometimes.

Should I take him to the vet? His eye isn't infected as far as I can tell. It doesn't have any mucus or anything in it. You think maybe they can tell if it is a bad eye by looking at it?

The health sheet below is pretty much the same as it has always been, with a few edits.

Chameleon Info:
Male Ambilobe Panther chameleon. DOH- 6/29/11. He has been in my care since 9/27/11.
Handling - 1-2 times per day. Usually its to get him outside in his freerange to feed him.
Feeding - 10-20 Crickets per day, usually in the morning after I wake up. I only feed him when he's on his freerange outside in the sun. I rarely let the feeders free range. I usually cupfeed or handfeed. . I gutload my feeders with Repashy Bug Burger
Supplements - I supplement Repashy Calcium Plus every day.
Watering - I use a spray bottle. I spray about three times per day, for around three minutes each time. I do sometimes see him drinking.
Fecal Description - They look normal to me. White, with the brown attached to it. Not watery or anything. He has never been tested for parasites. I plan on doing so next month.

Cage Info:
Cage Type - Reptibreeze 68 gallon.
Lighting - Reptisun 5.0, with a 45 watt basking light. Lights go on around 10:30 AM and go off around the same time.
Temperature - 78 degrees in the day, and around 72 at night. The basking spot is about 83 degrees.
Humidity - I have not measured humidity levels, but I mist 3 times per day for about 3 minutes each time. (Enough to get everything dripping.)
Plants - I am using a Pothos and Ficus.
Placement - The cage is located in my room. There is a fan in my room which is never on. There is an air vent ABOVE the cage but none of the air hits the cage. It is not a high traffic area.
Location - I am located in Miami, Florida.

Sometimes when a chameleon is closing its eye it is not necessarily something wrong with its eye itself.

I have had a cham who started closing her eye a lot. She actually had an infection in her mouth and there was nothing really wrong with her eye at all... It was just a symptom of her mouth infection.

Do you have a good chameleon vet near you? I think it would be a good idea to get him a check up to see if there is anything else going on that may be causing his eye to close and his tongue not to shoot properly

You might want to take Waldo into the vets for a good check up.
Thats probably a good idea. Might as well get a fecal while im at it.

I had no idea. If I knew that I would have made an appointment ASAP!

There is this place called Avian & Exotic right near my house. I called them awhile back and they said they were familiar and experienced with chameleons. I don't really know if I should trust that, though. Theres a vet guy named Dr. Strauss which VeiledChams goes to and another member on here, too. Apparently he is great so I might take Waldo there. Its quite a long drive, though!

We often drive a long ways for our chams.

I made an appointment with Dr.Strauss for Tuesday at 10:30 AM. They seemed very knowledgeable over the phone. Much more than Avian & Exotic. And a lot cheaper, too!

Veiled, they asked me for your name since you're the reason I know about them. They want to give you credit or something. I didn't know your name but I just saw it. Ill tell them on Tuesday. :)

Hope that all goes well for Waldo at the vets.

Thank you! I hope the same. Poor Waldo has had this issue since shortly after I got him! I got him in September, so whatever it is, he's had it for awhile. I hope its not too serious.

Best of luck at the vet.

Hopefully he poo's for you prior to going. I always take the days before and put it in the fridge. I put it in a damp coffee filter then zip bag so it does not dry out. Then if they poo the day I am going before I leave I take the fresh, if not at least I have one :)

Well, we just got back. Waldo has a tear duct infection which spread to his respiratory system. The tearduct infection explains his eyes. He gave me Tobramycin Ophthalmic Solution USP eye drops and Baytril. The eye drops are to be applied three times per day, and the Baytril in the morning and at night. Waldo came to me with a Tearduct infection, so he has had this in his system for awhile. Please hope for the best.

The vet is running a couture so he will let me know if it is contagious (For Peaches) and etc.... It ran me 206$, but its worth it to have a chance at getting him healthy again.
