Viv location - noob question

so i'm getting my gonzo baby male next week and i'm trying to figure out where to place the viv. i have 3 kids and they are wild! is it okay to place the viv in the living room, basement, dining room where there's a lot of activity or do you recommend placing it in a very quiet room where there's very little activity.

i was thinking if little activity is best and less stressful for the cham, i was going to keep it in my room but do they wake up in the middle of night if they hear noises or i turn on a bathroom light, etc.

where do you keep your viv? thanks!!!

I keep it in my room, though I only go in there to sleep.

You want to find an area with low traffic, and right temperatures.
The basement sounds great as long as the temps are right.

Quiet room is best..though, noise isn't as much of a problem as visual activity (which is what I think of when I hear about wild kids).

Chameleons are very good sleepers. If they were human babies, they would be the envy of all other parents.

You don't have to worry about anything but an extreme noise bothering them when they are asleep.

Lights are another matter. If there is a lot of "on and off" with the lights, just toss a big beach towel over the cage (as you would a bird) to keep it dark in the cage.

sup,
i have three kids also and was thinking this was gonna be a much bigger deal than it turned out to be. And i have little maniacs!! lol In my very experienced opinion with this i say its totally safe to put it in the area that you want. if that area has alot of traffic i recommend lots of cover...vines plants etc. Sometimes if it gets really crazy in the room my cham just chills behind some leaf or hibiscus flower totally chilled out. i found that the cham in the "quite" part of the house :p does just as good as the guy in the heavy traffic area. keep the enclosure up to par( as far as care is concerned )and your cham will do just fine wherever you will put him. I will admit that i spend about an hour a day observing behaviors, patterns, moods etc. just to make sure i dont have to make a move. good luck .
oh and by the way...the kids will love em :D

They do, sort of, seem interested in what's going on...so, some activity is not a bad thing at all. I do think that when it's "chameleon bed time" if there is a lot of activity and light in the room, covering the cage is best.

thanks for the tips everyone. so basically, i can put the viv in any location but..

-be mindful to cover the cage if there are any lights or activity in the room during bed time
-if there's a lot of activity in the room during the day, make sure to have a lot of cover so the cham can hide out

i was so worried my kids were going to stress it out and now i'm feeling much better.

id be more worried about things knocking into the viv or the kids wanting to take the cham out of his enclosure. Make sure to set strict rules wherever you place him! :)

LOL! I know what you mean. i'm putting it on top of a table so my littles can't reach him. They're going to love him! The best part about kids and my new cham is that I'm going to make them touch his food. I'm sure over time I'll get over my disgust of insects but I'll be very happy if they do all the handling of his food

mine is in my living room right infront of a window :)
but its just me & my fiance so there isnt much traffic going on lol
they seem to enjoy it there

Hey, why not place him in my room? I think that would be perfect, it is going going to be a gorgeous guy looking at his papa.;)
