Vet visit yesterday

So yesterday I took Donnie to the vet to get a fecal and check for parasites. The tests came back with a positive for parasites. The Doc said they were nematodes (ascarids), does any have any more info on these? He prescribed Panacur to be given once a week for 4 weeks. Has anyone used this medicine with positive results?

I use it on every new reptile/amphibian I get. Thumper finished his treatment about 2 weeks ago. I use it mainly for my dart frogs.

Nematodes (ascarids), would be round worms. I have used Panacur many times to treat parasites. My vet, Dr. Ivan Alfonso (well respected chameleon vet) recommends using Panacur for 3 days, then skip 2 weeks, then repeat 3 more days and then wait 2 weeks and get another fecal to make sure the cham is clean.

Ok I may follow that schedule because 1 time a week doesn't sound like enough. Does age matter, he is only 6 months.

Really? Ok well I guess I'll go with your method jann. I'm sure the treatment would different with frogs and chameleons considering size and weight. Thanks Jann:)

There are several different dosing schedules that are effective. The one Jann mentiond is used often, but the once a week for 4 weeks is too, and it's even listed first in the book. Both of them are effective. There's even another schedule too. So your vet gave you the right thing.

Oh ok. Then I will stick with the original schedule. His weight was 60 grams if I remember (0.03 lbs) if that makes a difference.
