I got a quick question when the veileds gap and strike at you will the bite and how oten or is it more just to scare of predators and people thanks....uz i see most pics of people holdin them....mine allow me to hold them but sometimes just gap and strike for me.....

He is trying to scare you away or out of his territory. Are you trying to take him out of his viv, hand feeding or what when he is striking at you?

he allows me to hand feed but when i go to take him out or put my hand near him he bugs like that

if he puts both front hands in front of his body it means hes in the fighting position and if he hises it means he/she doesint want you in his territory but they wont often bite

If you need to take him out, open his door and hold the food outside the door so he has to come to you. Have your other hand at the edge of his limb so he has to climb on your hand to get the food in the other hand. Just keep coaxing him out with food.

it dosnt matter if your the boss. If he does not want to be handled then leave him be. Your just adding unneeded stress into your chams life. The reason he wants to bite you is because he does not want to be handled. Yes he hand feeds because he wants food but nothing otherwise. Unless he willingly climbs onto your hand or you are cleaning his viv then i suggest leaving him alone

personally i dont think it matters how many you own, what does matter is weather you "think" you are not stressing your cham or chams out by handling them you really are. Just because "handling your chameleon will stress it out and stress leads to death" doesnt make sence to you does not make it no ttrue. Do or donot take my advice but im telling you this not only from me but other forum members will tell you the same.

ok so what about people that let them free roam??? just run around the house that doesnt stress em?

My chameleon is much more at ease and stress free when he is out of his cage. You just dont let them "roam around your house" a free range area needs to be a place where they are relaxed and happy and most importantly safe. What Matt is trying to say is if your chameleon does not want to be handled, then it is best to let it be. You have to know when to back off and not force your chameleon into a stressful situation. If your cham is striking or hissing at you then he feels threatened and you should leave him alone. I handle my chameleon everyday, but there are times when he does not want to be bothered so I let him be.
