Veiled very dark

We are new to raising a chameleon. We have had his for about a month and he has always been very green. We went to the pet store and they said we needed a blue light rather than the red. We also have a white light as well.

We put in blue light Thursday night, came home yesterday afternoon and he was a very different color. Very yellow and you could see his strips. Then last night, he was very black/grey. I took the blue light out and put red back in. This morning he is more green and yellow and prodominant strips. Seems to be eating ok as he ate a couple worms this AM.

Any suggestions? Pictures attached.

Please fill out the how to ask for help form. You don't need a blue or red light. You need a uvb bulb and a regular incandescent household bulb for heat. No bulbs at night

He's dark? This could be his genes or he's cold. If he's a newborn he can be especially dark if he's cold. Are you checking the heat lamp?/is his basking spot close enough but not so close that he can burn to the lamp?

And I agree with @Nursemaia that red lamps are bad, chameleons can see red and maybe blue, if they can't see blue they see white and that's even worse! Don't Use Red Or Blue Lamps For NIGHT! Don't use anything

He has always been pretty lime green...all this just started after they told us to use a blue light at the store.

I think he was basking too close to the light and I think that's it. We took out blue light and only have white light on now and he seems to be going back to normal

What my Cham used to do was climb on top of the mesh go get closer to the heat lamp.. And I was afraid that he was burning.. Sure enough his basking spot was super low and my heat lamp wasn't all the way up, sounds good though. Maybe he just wasn't getting sleep at night, hell. I wouldn't trust petco with my crickets.. They'd probably kill them to
