Veiled still not eating properly!

Hi, If anyone could give me some advice on this that would be great!

I have had my 2yo male veiled for 10 days now, he is not eating out of his cup which was used by previous owner. Have been leaving in a few locusts/crickets which he has eaten some of but not as many as he should be!

He is a pretty grumpy guy and has tried to go for me a few times when I have been trying to put some food in his viv and I know he's still probably getting used to his new surroundings.

He doesn't appear to be unhappy and he is pretty active in his viv its just dont see him eating regularly enough for my liking. And also now starting to worry about his supplements. Most of what he has eaten is probably low on gut loading and dusting.

Is this lack of eating something I need to be worried about with him or should this start picking up again once he is properly comfortable with me?

However he has literally just nailed a locust whilst writing this!lol but if anyone could help put my mind at ease that would be much appreciated! Cheers!

How many do you think he should be eating?

For a 2 year old, 6 large locusts every other day would be fine.

thats good to know, thanks very much. I thought around 4-6 crickets and a couple of locusts a day would be about right. TBH hes not been interested in the crickets so in the last week he has only probably eaten around 8-12 locusts, previous owner did say he was eating both. My concern at the moment is getting some supplements into him, locusts seem to clean of a dusting pretty quickly!

New Place

Whenever I first got my female veiled, she wasn't eating very much. It's all got to do with being in a new environment, and adjusting. Imagine if you were just put in a new place, with strange people, etcetera, and were trying to adjust. It's the same for them, except for that veileds have much higher stress levels than humans.

I totally understand this is all new for him, this is the main reason I have tried to stick with his previous feeding routine. I am also hoping in time the aggression towards myself will calm down, as you can all understand this makes grabbing any dead crickets and giving a wipe of any excess moisture a bit of a pain.

I might just go with the locust for now and leave the crickets, this will hopefully give me a better indication of how much he is feeding and a better chance of getting a bit of supplements into him! thanks for the insight, this is all helping!
