Veiled gravid????

Hello All
Thanks for the valuable advice yesterday!!!

Just a quick update (as the children are home with mummy today. hehe)

I have since moved all the light fixtures and safely secured them above the cage.

I have taken both my babies to a vet (who just so happens to be a cham keeper himself and this is his specialty)

He said it appears the male did in fact have a previous burn on his casque. :(
Hence the reason it is so small. It is healed but he said I did the best thing by removing the lights. I told him I got the advice here. :D

The female doesn't have mbd but she is very thin. :( I have started her on a mixture of silk worms as well as crickets and a couple wax a day. She loves to eat greens so I think that is why she didn't eat just crickets.
He doesn't think she is with eggs!! :D I am so glad about that!!!! (I am wondering if she had them prior to me collecting her??) I am leaving a bucket of sand in with her just in case. (You can never be to safe) She will not have to worry about egg laying and breeding (I know she will lay even without breeding) but I am determined they will both have top quality lives!!!

Both are now having a good shed and the vet said that was actually a good thing. YAY

and final note.. he is popping around today (once his practice closes) just to make sure my setup is optimum and everything is in the correct places and give me a few tips on the feeding and all. :D

Many Thanks to everyone here!!! The information you gave me yesterday was priceless and you may have saved another burn from occuring!!

I will keep you all posted as to the progress of my babies!! I am now in the process of naming them!! hehe ;)

That is great to hear. I wish I had a vet that would drop by hahaha. I am actually looking for a nother I think I found one but have yet to visit. It is hard to get a vet that has some experience with chams. Great luck to you

He was lovely!! He came by and said the setup was great!! The males is very large 175gal flexarium. He agreed about the lights being suspnded above the cage and not in it.

Overall he was very pleased and said he is pretty sure the female is actually coming receptive as she nows has the blue dots coming up even more. This is GREAT news as I know she isn't currently with eggs and that I can get her stable and gaining weight!

On an odd note.. As I previously stated I had trouble getting her to eat anything accept wax worms. Well seems she loves my 3 1/2 yr old daughter. When the vet was here he mentioned about how relaxed she was with my daughter and as a test we let her hand feed the female... she wolfed a locust right from my daughter!! Wouldn't take one from me or the vet.. but then took another from my daughter! Odd but great news!!! My daughter is thrilled to bits and has since named her Annabel. hehe

its wonderful news! i am glad to hear that everything is falling into place for your babies! and its so cute about your daughter feeding the female!!!!
