Veiled Eggs Question

Hi Everyone!

We have 39 eggs from our female Veiled in an incubator How often should I mist them and how can I tell if any of them are going to make it? They seem soft but they're quite large and white..... this is her first clutch and I just want to make sure we're doing this right...

Dont mist the eggs.. use a dropper to moisten the vermiculite whenever the humidity gets too low.

Thank you - The humidity stays right around 60% and temp of 77..... How can I tell if they're "good" eggs? One got moldy a month after they were laid, but the rest are still white and round... just kind of "spoungey"....

Go with what the previous poster stated. They will soak up all the water from the vermiculite, don't drench the vermiculite too much or it will drown the eggs. Just a few drops will do you.

Also, when they feel or seem soft, it's because it takes a while for them to harden. I noticed mine hardened a bit after two months. Try not to handle the eggs it can't be good for them. Just leave them be and add a bit of water every few months. If it's a HovaBator add some water into the tray at the bottom of the incubator.

The eggs won't harden up like a chicken egg. The shells will have some give to them.

If you make the vermiculite too moist your eggs will take on too much water and the babies will likely suffocate in the eggs. The vermiculite should be moist enough that when you take a fist full of it you can only squeeze out a drop or two of water. You only need to add water if the eggs start to dent in or the vermiculite looks very dry. Your incubation containers should have lids on them.....gotta mention that just in case you didn't know.

There will be moisture on the sides of the container and the underside of the lid.
I use shoebox sized containers and only fill them half full of slightly moist vermiculite (coarse variety) so that the chameleons will have some room to move around in the container when then hatch until you "rescue" them.
