Veiled chameleons...carotenoids...immune system...

Crustaceans have lots of carotinoids. Look at Flamingos that feed on Anostracans. What insects would have more? I don't know if Lady bugs would be good food. I am thinking red insects.

The red in lady bugs is cochineal. It can cause lots of problems in smaller animals especially.

What would krill do for the diet?

The point of the article was the effect of carotenoids on the chameleon's immune system...the mention of the color was just a sort of side comment IMHO.

This is an interesting article. I haven’t read any other papers that analyzed nutritional content of wild insects that Chams eat.
Even though this is the diet of feral chams in Florida and not natives in Yemen, it still offers a small window into the nutrition of wild chameleons
