100 watt bulb is really high.
I don't like the ceramic heat bulbs they produce a ton of heat... Then you end up with thermal burns. I would replace it with a regular incandescent household light bulb start with a 60 watt and see what temps are at basking.Do you have a recommended wattage for living in Nevada desert? It can get pretty warm in the room during summer, today the enclosure has been reading around 70-75 degrees. Would 50 watt be too low? Maybe keep the 100 watt during winter instead? We get cold and sometimes brutal winters occasionally.

It’s been warming up so we don’t have the heat on but that room isn’t well isolated even in winter, it was always cold in that room but nothing alarming for him.Do you have heat in your house? I’ve never had to use a 100 watt bulb. What kind of bulb are you using? I use a regular (old style) household bulb and usually start with a 40 watt and go from there until I get the required temp. Do you have a temp gun? I keep my adult male veileds in the upper 80’s.
The casque was fine. No prior damage at all.

See now that image shows infection in the casque. That would be why this happened. If it were me I would take him to the vet and get the silver sulfadiazine cream for the topical and get him on antibiotics tell them it is urgent and make sure they are a reptile vet. Or tell us what city/state you live in and @jannb can give you a vet near you that could treat him.i suck, we thought it was just shedding. I did however, noticed on the car ride home after picking him up his back spines were gone indicating burns. Didn’t look close enough to his casque I guess.![]()

I don't know but if this were my cham he would be at the vet... I would be getting him antibiotics as well. His casque was basically puss filled. You can tell in the picture you posted. Getting the right topical cream will help but I would not stop there. He is not well. That is painful for him. If it is not treated correctly the infection can spread to his body. It is like sawing open your leg and not going and getting antibiotics, stitches, and bandages...Thanks so much!
I’m in Reno, NV. I called the vet at Kreature Komforts(their vet is out of town) and that led me to Mountain View. I talked to them this morning. Do you think I can get the cream from them without bringing in my Cham?
