Chameleon Info:

Your Chameleon - Veiled, male, about a week or two old. Just got him--although this is not the first Veiled I have owned.
Handling - Once since I got him to check on him.
Feeding - Once a day. Fruit flies.
Watering - I spray twice a day, and have a light fog going on throughout the rest of the day to keep the humidity up and to lightly mist some leaves.
Fecal Description - Have not seen any yet--only been in my care for two days.

Cage Info:

Cage Type - Glass with a screen on top, and screens on two sides to add airflow. The dimensions are roughly 3ftx2ftx3ft,
Lighting - A 100 watt uva bulb from Zoo Med, and a 75 watt basking light from zoo med. The run from 6am to 6pm.
Temperature - Basking spot is 90-95f, and 85f throughout, with 80f as the coolest spot.
Humidity - I use moss and substrate to help maintain a humidity level of 70-80.
Plants - Are you using live plants? If so, what kind?
Placement - It is not near any fans, but a window which I leave open for an hour a day to provide natural sunlight, It is elevated about three and a half feet from the ground.
Location - Arizona

Current Problem - I have only had him for two days, and have noticed that--most of the time--he has his eyes closed. He DOES move around occasionally and has great coloring--but mostly, I assume, sleeps. He remains the cool green color while sleeping, and gets a cool green, and forest green, pattern when moving around. I've seen him in both the cooler part and warmer part of the habitat. I have fed him, and don't SEE any of the fruit flies, but haven't actually witnessed him eating. I just want to make sure he's alright.

Hi welcome to the forum. First of all you have a very tiny there if he is only a week or two old. Your temps are far to high, you are cooking him. Drop it to 82 . I don't know how you buy your fruit flys but I cut a hole in the container and let a steady flow come out all day. Is your uv a new one if so it could be too strong, it may be hurting his eyes. You need lots of leaves in the viv, live if possible so he can get away from the light and to maintain humidity. I would get rid of the moss just in case he ingests some. You don't have to maintain your humidity, as long as it spikes and drops a few times a day. What supplements are you using?

Yes, you have two uva bulbs right now and your chameleon will become very ill and eventually die without uvb. Get a Reptisun 5.0 tube light for your cage. That is an awfully big cage. Are you sure he is able to get his food? I would add some pin head crickets to his diet besides the fruit flies. as Kate said you temps are very high for such a young cham. Remove the moss substrate also. He can eat it and die if swallowed. Your coolest spot should be about 70 or in the very low 70's

Awesome. Thank you so much guys. That's what I thought the issue was, I just wanted to make sure. I am actually purchaing a uva within the next day or two. I will immediately remove the basking and moss. I will post back with results! Thanks!

you mean uvb right? you already have uva!! As far as the supplements the repcal you have with the d3 contains high levels of d3 and that is not to be used too often. Twice a month is recomended and the multi also. Get a plain calcium with NO d3 and use that at every feeding.

Sorry, I meant UVB. And I actually just got one, removed the basking lamp and actually added pinhead crickets to the cage. He's still closing his eyes (he opens them when I take him out, and does not seem irritated or upset), and I have even dropped the humidity by turning off the fogger. I'm really cocerned. I don't see him eating still, and had to actually go to work and won't be back home for another five hours. The temps are now 80-85f and 70-75f.

I do also have and use
non d3

Okay. So I now have UVA and UVB bulbs. The temp ranges anywhere from 75f-85f and I spray the cage twice a day. He still is keeping his eyes closed, and, although he does occasionally move around, he moves around more often when I get him out of the cage. Even then he still mostly keeps his eyes closed, but the majority of the time he DOES open his eyes is when I have him out. I put the spray bottle up to his mouth and he began drinking from it quite a bit, which doesn't make sense to me since I do spray the cage. My guess is he never opens his eyes to see the water maybe. I'm just really concerned and want to make sure he's okay. Also I don't see nearly as many fruit flies in there, but I don't know if he's actually eating them. I BELIEVE all of the pinheads are still in there, and never witness him actually eating.:(:(:(

He also seems very calm and relaxed when I get him out of the cage. No stressed colors, and when I take him outside in my hand to catch some rays, he opens his eyes for a bit, the closes them once again.

He is in a really big viv for such a little one. Could you section off a bit to make it smaller? He will probably have problems seeing any insects in a big viv. I have been looking after two tiny nosy bs and I had them in a 13x13x16" viv. The fruit flies I let loose in there but the crickets I cup fed and removed them at night. I can't help thinking this has something to do with the lights. As long as your temps are ok I would switch off the basking light. A Cham that age doesn't need a basking light. :)

I know others will ask this, but I want to know what breeder sold you a chameleon that is only 1 to 2 weeks old? That is way too young.
