Veiled chameleon breeding help!

I have done a lot of research on breeding veileds but it always talks about the females. Both my male and female are showing interest in one another but when I put them together my male attacks her so ferociously that it scares me. Is this normal? I'm so afraid that he is going to kill her so I separate them. Can someone plz help! I really want to breed them, Im so excited to be able to say I breed them but its not worth losing my female.

I would not put them together if he is aggressive with her. My male veiled was extremely gentle with my female. Before you breed you might want to read this link below. Veiled babies were very expensive and very time consuming. It's definitely not anything to make money at.

Does he attack her like he's going to bite her or hurt her or is he just eager to climb on and mate? Sometimes they aren't very gentle about it.

He bites at her I and when I put her close to him she is calm and accepting but he puffs up mouth open and lunges at her I put my hand in the way to block him and he got my hand but better me than her.

When I got him I was told he was 19 months so now he is about 2 years and she was about 3 to 4 months or so and I've had her almost a year so 15 months or so.

My suggestion, and you may have already done this, put their cages next to one another and remove any visual barriers, and leave them alone for a couple days, this might allow the two of them to become comfortable with one another without the threat of an attack. Another suggestion I would offer, is to set up a 3rd terrarium used specifically for the breeding, this way neither the male or female will be territorial about the cage. I would not recommend that! That would be highly stressful for the female. They should not be able to see eachother.

OP, get a large plant or tree in your house and put them together, make sure they're both okay before putting them together. Also, I would not breed just to get bragging rights. I know you say you've done a lot of research and I believe you, but there will be a LOT of babies and a LOT of mouths to feed, which can be very costly. Especially if any of them need the vet.

I made the suggestion to the OP to place the chameleons next to one another because he stated that the female was receptive to mating, but the male was either overly aggressive in his attempt to breed, or possibly with the intent on injuring the female. Placing them in separate cages where they can see one another would allow the male to get more comfortable with the female, as the female already seems comfortable with the male. I do not believe having them in sight of one another will be overly stressful to the female, especially for only a couple of days. He intends on breeding, I believe this is a good way to allow that to happen in the safest manner. Also the 3rd cage may make a big difference.

I know the 3rd cage is fine, but just because she's receptive now doesn't mean she wants to be in sight of the male for days. Chameleons don't really "get used to eachother". If the sight of the female stresses the male out, that would just make him angrier.

Haha, well I guess this is just one of those situations where we have to agree to disagree. The removal of the visual barrier is a method I have used for many years with great success, and in my opinion greatly reduces the risk of an attack when attempting to pair chameleons for breeding.

Money is no issue and not doing it for bragging rights just doing it for the experience of doing so I've breed fish and it made me feel good watching the life cycle unfold of them and I love my chams and I would love to just watch the life of these amazing animals happen before my eyes and it would give my son an experience of a life time to witness this as well he's loves his lizards and it will give him so much enjoyment watching this
