Veiled Cannot Eat

MY MALE veiled sonic cannot eat because when he fires his tongue the bugs wont stick to it,i saw him try to eat 6-7 times and his tongue must not be sticky enough. anyone know whats going on?

he still has strength and bulk but hes getting thin in the mid section.

hes in a 30x30x18 mesh cage with promist temps ambient 75f daytime 65f at night ,dual reptisun 5.0.

Try giving him a shower, what kind of insects were u feeding him when this was happening? Try worms, or smaller crickets so he can wrap his tongue around his meal..Every time I hand feed my male if i get close enough he opens his mouth and bites down without using his tongue, try that...
Good Luck

David

i was feeding him superworms,he is 2 years old,he looks somewhat dehydrated even though he is on promist and a dripper.i have given him water via syringe and it helps i have also dropped superworms and pulled legs off crickets in his mouth and he eats them.

his eyes do look a little sunken in. like i was saying if i pull a leg off a cricket and drop it in his mouth he eats it ,i gave him 3-4 today ,i plan on giving him more tomorow and will update his condition.its a shame because sonic was very heavy and he has lost some weight.

i am using reptisun 5.0 uvb and a 60 watt lightbulb for basking which sits right on top of the mesh cage like it always has.basking temps range from 90f-100f.

How does he like silkworms?
I think they're great for hydrating, as well as providing good nutrition.

Agree with silkworms......

I agree with the silkworms Brad suggested. Or hornworms. I would limit the superworms. They are very low on the list of nutritious feeders. High in fat and low in everything else. Butterworms are another easy to eat thing high in calcium and low in fat.

i haVE not tried silkworms plus i have some other concerns now as my one other female veiled is also looking dehydrated shes 7 months old, also the male sambava eyes look sorta sunken. its strange, fireball is in the best health of the entire bunch.i am now wondering that maybe its a parasite cause fireball is my only cham that is self sufficient that meaning she never got any liqiud calcium with the dropper or anything for that matter.somehow she just manages to keep herself right by eating alot of dusted bugs.

lucky also has been fighting dehydration and lack of appetite,at first i thought it was a strike but now im considering taking a fecal sample and taking sonic to the vet because if he got something its very possible they all do.
i use the same dropper to administir there meds, calcium and lately water i just rinse it off with hot water,i was just reading that it is very wise to have a dropper for each animal and put there name on it.

i may have accidently contaminated them all except 1 fireball shes a veiled.
i will very likely be making a vet appointment tomorrow.if it is a parasite im hoping my vet will sell me enough medicine for ALL of them.right now my fear is that they have coccodia.also shaky is not eating but his eyes are ok.
i have 3 that are dehydrated bad so i will post some more info when i have it.

the good news is the vet i go too now has a reptile specialist.

That seems really odd that they all seem to have the same issue. Please do post what you/the vet comes up with. I will be interested to hear about it.

Yes -please let us know what the Vet says. You have been on this forum for a long time and it seems strange that all of your chams would start looking dehydrated. You have also sold silkworms in the past so why not feed them? Is your misting system running enough/long enough?

i have not been breeding silkies because silkworm wholesale refuse to sell me eggs. \
yes its very strange they all are suffering from sunken eyes and dehydration.
i spend maNY hours and alot of money keeping them in healthy condition.

i will be taking 2 of them to the vet thursday and dropping them of for a FULL testing of fecal and blood.
i am determined in finding out whats going wrong.
i will most likely lose Lucky. she was ill ,dehydrated and not eating ,sunday she laid 9 eggs so theres about 30 or so in her belly yet.i will be taking her to the vet also.these eggs were not from a recent breeding she just started making eggs again.last year she got eggbound and i spent 3-4 weeks keeping her alive ,i gave her injections of a drug that forced the eggs out over 3 days then hydrated her and so on.she was in good health then so the odds were in her favor.this time she is not as strong but i will still try.her eyes are so sunk in now.she didnt even look very fat then she started pacing so i put a container in her cage last saturday and she laid 9 eggs sunday.she had lost so much of her fat deposits ,i have been giving her water and calcium with a plastic syringe which improved her health so she thought she could lay her eggs and only 9 so i know shes in a bad way.

i will keep posting info when i can.i live alone so i am always very busy.
today i was watching Lucky and i honestly got a bad feeling. then when went to give her some water she hissed and bit me and it gave me hope for her.
i have 3 other female veileds 1 is infertile that is splinter.so i could just "let her go" the 26 hatchlings that hatched in may were all hers so i feel i must at least try to bring her health back and find out whats happening to her/them.

sonic and lucky both have a vit D and vit. A deficiency.
they both have new 5.0 reptisun lighting so its a mystery still why they got vitamin D deficiencies.i mean im using repcal w/vit.D3

the vet says they got vitamin D and A deficiencies. she gave me vit. D and A and panacur to cure them.it snowed here thursday so i didnt pick them up until friday.i decided that it will be better for me to take them there when they can check them out right away so they dont gotta stay overnight.

I am so sorry to hear about your sick chams. Have you figured out what went wrong? I'm always reading here to improve my husbandry techniques. We all can learn from each other, even from each other's mistakes.

whoa.. that's a bit odd.. vit A and D deficiency?
did you change your supplementing schedule or something?

In another thread you said all of your chams are sick and most likely going to die-and above you mentioned that 2 have D and A deficiency, and in your post you said:

"the vet says they got vitamin D and A deficiencies. she gave me vit. D and A and panacur to cure them.it snowed here thursday so i didnt pick them up until friday.i decided that it will be better for me to take them there when they can check them out right away so they dont gotta stay overnight."

Am I the only one that is confused here?

i took 2 of them to the vet thats all i can afford because it is sorta expensive to take 8 chams to the vet.only 3 are eating now on a daily basis.
they all have the same symptoms.
and yes the vit A and vit D is so strange because i am using the same products i been using from the start.

and yes it is very confusing for me and you more confusing to me.
i have considered like i said something is killing them or someone has done something to something they ingest.its been so confusing that i considered the fact that someone very evil or disturbed has wished to destroy my chams to make me suffer the loss.
i got some vit A YESTERDAY. and i got some vit D spray.
i called 4 pet stores including petsmart and petco for t=rex solar drops and NONE of them have them.peachy and baby are still med size chams so i dont want to use the injectable vits. i got from the vet on them because they are only for the 2 chams i took to the vet.

as far as me stating they most likely all will perish is my way of preping myself mentally for the processes that could take place.
they could very well all die.it is very possible .

it is not draining me. i am not giving in.i spayed the 2 chams peachy and baby with the electrolize w/vit D spray its exo terra drops you put in your spray water 2 drops per oz of water and they appeared to like it.
also the male sambava liked the spray, hes eating but something is not right with him.i also am using the container of zoomed calcium w vit D instead of the repcal,i got a free container of this zoomed calcium and i beleive it might be wise to avoid the 2 jars of repcal for the time being.

i dont mean to confuse anyone ,sometimes its difficult for me to type what i want to say how i want to say it.

i beleive lucky is gonna be a gonner for sure because shes laying on the branch and she never lays on a branch shes still trying to bite so maybe she will prove me wrong,i hope.

heres some pics,i decided to take some pics now before its to late.she is very angry lately so shes not happy about pics being taken so i only took 3-4. the third pic is of splinter gravid the 4th pic is baby.baby looks better but she also is somewhat dehydrated and getting fatter. looking at these pics just makes my sick.
