what do you people say about being the right age to breed males and females?
ive heard
males- approx 14months
females- approx 16/18 months

what do you people say?

Well-they can breed at about 6 months-and yes I am sure they do so in the wild. However-we are keeping them captively and not in the wild. It is very common to hear people say at one year. Size is also a factor. I have had some female chameleons that are larger at 11 months then some that are 1 1/2 years. Personally, I wait until they are around a year old and of adequate size and optimal health.

I agree with Juli, it is all about health and size. If they are not healthy 6, months, 1 year, 2 years, they should not be breed. imho

ok thanks
so would you say

from a year old or older and as long as they are healthy and big enough esp the female?

I does all deend on size and weight though. Having kept two females (neither of whom I have bred) I now understand how different in size and weight they can all be! Lily was bigger at 6 months when I got her than Amy is now at 11 months. Amy looks soooo tiny compared to Tommy, and I would definitely not breed them yet - she looks far too small still although weight-wise she is probably ok! I am a big softy - I couldn't bear for Tommy to squish her whilst mating and I really don't want to put her (or me!) through that just yet!

What does Charlie weigh? What is her svl? Lily weighed 200g AFTER laying 102 infertiles, bless her! I now realise how huge she really was! I was just showing photos of her to a friend today and when she was very gravid she looked like a fat green sausage, lol!

dont know ill weigh her in abit  shes poorly at the minute :( she hardly moves at all :(

male veileds have different styles of mating... as im sure humans do....... My male Jake is very good at getting the job done in a gentle manor.... The other guy Fred is a clumsy moron and walks around on Caddie and grips her in weird ways.....

So When mating watch them. Make sure the male has a clue and isn't just mounting the female. Fred will climb on Caddie and not think that he has to support his own weight and the first time he caused them to fall... he has gotten better but is still not very good at it.

Blimey! She is a big girl, isn't she?! I thought Lily was huge, lol! Amy weighed 148g at her last weigh in and she's 11 months now, but I think she is working on her first clutch - she has a nice round belly, bless her!:D Tommy hovers around the 180g mark.

To put this into perspective...... my males are about 220g and are 8-9" STV.................................. a female that is 2/3rds their size shouldn't weigh more.... That is not healthy..... You should really put her on a diet. 1 feeder item every other day. don't worry, she won't starve.

LOL yes shes a little chubby un  just a shame she wont be here much longer will be lucky to get another 2/3 months out of her tbh shes really going down hill :( and bob is stv at about 4inches and weighing 64g's :p

she doesnt eat that much at all around 3 adult locusts a week and maybe a few meal worms, she doesnt move at all which is why she puts weight on, the most she moves would be around 8 inches of space a day  shes not going to be with us much longer and defo wont be bred, the reason im asking for ages is cos im thinking about getting another female to grow up along side of bob then breed them pair :D

In my opinion it is most important to have the female be at least a year old.
The male can be as young as six months and get the job done and it does not tax him in any way.
The most important element to consider here is calcium. I believe it is crucial that this be dedicated to strong and healthy bone development in the first 12 months and not egg production.
