Chameleon Info:
Your Chameleon - Veiled, male, I was told he's about 8 months old, He's been in my hands for close to a month and half.
Handling - Rarely, not even once a month.
Feeding - I feed him crickets, gut loaded with fruits and veggies, coated with calcium daily, and with vit-d once every 2 weeks. He usually eats about 6 crickets a day. He did have some mealworms, but stopped feeding that due to the fat content. There's not much for me to feed him with (insect wise from the stores)
Supplements - Calcium with d3 (zoomed repti-calc)
Watering - watering his plants by misting, he drinks from the leaves. I mist frequently.
Fecal Description - brown poop and white urine droppings. No he has not been to a vet, nor any tests hasn't been done.
History - I don't know much about him. He was brought at Petco, and thats it.

Cage Info:
Cage Type -
Glass tank 32 gal size, tall hexagonal shape. It was an older tank i do not know the sizing. it also has a full screen top.
Lighting - uvb 13w/100 v and day light 25 w/100 v. lights on at 8 am and off at 8pm.
Temperature - his basking spot is about 80 and coldest is around 60. i have gauges.
Humidity - it averages 70-80% the whole day. hudmitiy gauge, and is maintained by misting his plants.
Plants - yes, the Scheff Arbicola.
Placement - Located in the entrance way to the kitchen. no vents near by.
Location - i reside in pittsburgh, PA

Current Problem - He is currently very mopey like. He was so active until the other day. he used to climb all over his plants/branches and be such a vibrant green. he's currently a dark brown and sleeping a lot. he hasn't seem to be eating much, and i was told he drank from his plant yesterday. the pictures i posted, him being green was when we first got him, and the brown version of him is what he is like now. he's sleeping in the bowl i use for his occasional treats/mealworms. I believe he wasn't fed calcium properly at the pet store, and i know his arms look disorted/like probable MBD but he was fine until yesterday. Today is just bad, he looks like he's giving up.. i am calling around to get him into a vet asap i can... help?? please?? he's scaring me and the family.. :(

He does have MBD and if it hasn't been treated it could be the reason for his behavior. If it hasn't been treated you need to first give him liquid calcium sandoz or gluconate until his blood calcium levels are appropriate and the bones are strong again. The crookedness won't likely go away.

In addition to correcting the issue you need to ensure he has appropriate husbandry.
Appropriate temperatures alleged for proper digestion and thus indirectly in nutrient absorption.

Exposure to the UVB will allow him to produce the D3 needed to use the calcium in the system.

Phosphorus-free calcium dusted on the insects at most feedings helps balance the poor ratio of calcium to phosphorous found in most feeder insects.

Using a phosphorous - free calcium D3 powder twice a month will ensure that he will get some D3 without overdosing it and leaving it to produce the rest from its exposure to the UVB.

A vitamin powder with a beta carotene (prOformed) source of vitamin A will provide the vitamins needed without overdosing him and leaves it up to you to provide the prEformed vitamin A if needed.

Feeding /gutloading the insects with a wide assortment of greens such as collards, escarole, endive, dandelion greens, kale, etc and veggies such as carrots, sweet red pepper, squash, zucchini, sweet potato, etc will also benefit your chameleon.

We're his arms crooked when you bought him?

Hi! Thanks! Yes his arms were crooked when we brought him, I didn't know that they weren't supposed to look like that.

His tongue is also sticking out a tad bit, looks a bit bloody like he bit his tongue. I tried to get him to open his mouth, he doesn't open very much. So I thought hmm, maybe he hasn't drank water in a few days so I took a medicine dropper and filled it with water and gave it to him that way. His head tilted up and he was excited to get this water. He is currently sleeping, which makes me happy he was happy to drink water with the aide of the dropper. I am going to order the liquid cal tonight, and hopefully the vets won't charge much to do an office visit once I can get him in.

Be careful giving him water with a dropper that he doesn't aspirate it. Ease it in a little at a time rather than squirting it in.

If you're going to take him to the vet he could get a calcium shot while he's there to jump start the calcium issue.

Yeah I kinda just let it hang/drip and when he moved his head up closer I let it slide in. He drank probably about 4 ml of water then went to sleep. So I think he has enough water for right now. Thank you for your help.

News to post!

For those reading, Camo is making a slow but full recovery. He does indeed have severe MBD that was happening while he was at the petstore. Apparently they were not supplementing properly and did not have the right UVB lighting for him to get in this condition now. The vet has him taking a feeding supplement (Carnivore Max) which I feed him 1ml 3 times daily until he can feed himself crickets and stuff. Along with this, a super concentrated calcium with glucose and vitamin drops 2x daily. Also dropping water in his mouth to help him not get dehydrated. He already has his greens coming back, and seems to be a bit more active. Still sleeping on the floor, and has his mouth open. His grip isn't so great for him to hold on to his branches so we put paper towels on the bottom of his cage and lighting closer to him inside it to help him absorb the needed UVB. I'm just glad he's on the right track at least. I love this little guy so much!
