Veil starting to curve?

my chameleons veil cask is starting to curv at the tip now. He is about 7 and a half to eight months. Is this a problem with maby a broken bone or just a natural deformation?

What is the basking temperature?

Do you have a UVB light on the cage where the light from it does not pass through glass or plastic or does your chameleon get direct sun? What is the brand and type (compact or linear) of the UVB light? How close can your chameleon get to the UVB light?

What do you dust the insects with (be specific) and how often for each supplement?

Mine started curving around 8 months, and I freaked out thinking he had mbd.

He didn't.


I think it's fairly natural but would also like to see photos and hear about yopur lighting and supp schedule.

Here are the Suppliments I use. I use the Calcium with D3 1 time a week and the Vitamin 1 time a week also. I use Calcium without D3 every day.

I use a Repti-Glo 5.0 uvb tube. Sits probly 2-5 inches away from the chams basking spot depending on where he is.

His basking temps are 90-96.

I only use the D3 twice a month and the multi once a month. You might be dusting to often. Also just lightly dust a few of the crickets......not all the feeders. Jann

I ll second that.. A lot of people have made that mistake..

he looks good in the pics however,,like royden said, sometimes they just dont grow perfectly straight..

he looks pretty good to me. I would guess that a certain variance is expected just like in people (foot and/or breast sizes slightly different, etc).

Compared to mine, the legs in your pics look a bit skinny. I'm not authority but both of mine seem to have considerably more muscle on their legs.

Also, the eyes - do they seem sunken at all? hard to tell from the photo.

Your Veileds casque looks fine.
Are you sure on his age?

Compared to mine, the legs in your pics look a bit skinny. I'm not authority but both of mine seem to have considerably more muscle on their legs.

You male chameleons put most of their food enery towards growing.
IMO, male Veileds should look skinny.
They are reptiles, so skinny is better then fat.
He will put some more meat on his bones when he stops growing as fast.

Also, the eyes - do they seem sunken at all? hard to tell from the photo.

Also, IMO, that's how a typical young male Veiled should look.
Veiled Chameleons can draw their eyes in when they are threatened.
That tends to confuse people that havent cared for veileds long enough.

You make a good point about growing - mine did not fill out in their legs until they were fully grown now that I think about it.

Ideal weight is something I'd like to learn more about. With snakes its not too hard to tell when they are getting fat but with my veileds I can see that one is bigger than the other, but the larger one doesn't look flabby or anything.

I think the casque looks just fine, but if you're really worried u can try to feel it and see if it's pliable VERY GENTLY check. If the bone feels rubbery then you can start worrying.
