Vegetation food

so i've been searching the forums and couldn't find anything on this.. i have a baby (5week old) female veiled chameleon.. i've been looking at getting some vegetation for her to mix up her diet.. i was just curious, when giving her the vegetation, should i cut it up into very small, bite size pieces or will she be able to bite off a little bit at a time?

Also, i found out something really interesting when i woke up today.. Amy is quite a picky eater already!! she doesn't like anything that's dead (so i'm curious how that's going to work with the vegetables..). there was a dead cricket on the ground and she apparently thought it was alive. she went down to eat it, grabbed it with her tongue, bit it a couple times and spit it out... does anyone else's cham do that??

Hi there! Yes you should cut it up into small pieces and also make sure you are giving her safe veg. Some veggies can be harmful if fed a lot.

They don't eat dead bugs, they like the bugs wriggly! But they recognise the veg, totally different situation. Although, I have seen my girl hunt salad before lol!

awesome! thanks for the quick reply! yeah. i've seen a few posts with people suggesting what veg to feed them but didn't really see anything about the size or whatever. sorry for the seemingly dumb questions. i just want to make sure i do it right! i love the little creature already and don't want to screw anything up. :p

really?! that would be freaking hilarious!! i kinda hope mine tries to hunter her salad :p

There are no dumb questions! That's what the forum is here for!

We have a bowl hanging up near the top for her veg which seems to work quite well. She spots it sometimes and bolts over to it like its gonna run away! Very funny :)

that's awesome! i love how much personality they show.. they're really amazing creatures! thanks again for the info :)

You can offer her the same greens (dandelions, kale, collards, mustard greens, endive, escarole, etc.) and veggies (carrots, squash, sweet red pepper, sweet potato, zucchini, etc.) that is used for gutloading crickets, roaches, superiors, etc and a small amount of fruit pear, apple, melon, berries, etc.) she might not be old enough to bother eating it yet....butits worth a try.

For me, my Veileds just don't like fruit and veg much, I also think 5 weeks is pretty early for any cham to go after veg, but I keep trying so it's worth a test :) Tiny chunks of strawberries are what mine like best.

yeah doesn't seem like she's really that into it.. got some on my way home and it's been sitting in there for a good hour without her touching it.. (small carrots and kale) so i tried a little bit of strawberry pieces.. nothing! so i gave in and gave her some crickets and she looked like she was hungry. just running as quickly as she could to get them.. i'll continue to try them but doesn't seem like she really wants something that doesn't squirm ;P

one thing i did notice and was wondering how normal this is... after she was finished eating, she would prop herself up.. kinda like she was showing her chest off or something.. put her head in the sky and just sat there for a bit.. has anyone else's done that??
