Vacation...What to do

Okay, I am leaving for vacation on Friday night, and will not be returning until Wednesday morning. What does everyone do with their chams? I have a great friend who will swing by every day to feed my 3 month old jacksons and my 1 yr old veiled. I do have a mistking on a schedule for daily use, is there anyhting else anyone can think to do to make me feel a little bit better. I am in dire need of a vacation, so staying home just isn't in the cards.. LOL>..

thanks guys,
Corey P

where are you from? there may be available keepers from here that may be able to help you out locally. if not, i would start calling exotic pet shops or vets and see if they do reptile pet sitting.

another option would be (depending on the age of your chameleon) if you're only gone for a few days to even a week, i would feed them very well before, and just leave them, providing you have an automatic mister.

or you can simply just show somebody what to do a few times, and have the, go over.

[a healthy and fully mature chameleon can go up to a weak without food and without problems as long as they have water to drink

Vacations are tough... I haven't been able to do it yet /: I would take the amount of crix needed for each and separate them into bins with LOTS of gutload items to make sure and dust the feeders food with calcium w/o D3 to compensate in case the friend doesn't dust as well... Not saying they won't... Just insurance :)

Add away good sir! I should have put that in the first place haha... I will say the best "mold proof" one I have found was buttnernut squash... Crix LOVE it and it doesn't mold NEAR as easily :)

I've had friend watch my cham for the week but I've also been able to leave her home alone. You can buy mist machines that can be set up in the corner or the tank. They go off on a timer to have a consistant misting. Also there are drippers you can get that can last a day or two. Its nice for having a constant water supply.

he said that he had a mistking and somebody coming over, :p i made that mistake too.

i would just add though to be very careful and specific when entrusting someone with your animals. not to put a worry on you, but it's not always a pleasant case returning home.

If they are willing to feed them make sure to show them how much calcium dust to use on the feeders and which ones. It's an easy thing to overlook.
