Hey all.

In my other flexarium I am using a 30cm ReptaSunPlus 5.0 which is working fine for my female Veiled.
But when I used this same tube for my other cage the chameleon would start closing its eyes so I would have to turn it off and her eyes stay closed for about a week, why is this? it is a 5.0 not a 10.0.
And am getting another flexarium so I will use a 5.0 which will probably work fine.
But in my cage that the 5.0 is no good I will also be needing a good uvb fixture so I need to know what will work, a 2.0?
Or is there some kind of bulb?
Oh and tell me what I must not use, which I think is that compact one that is all twisty and also come in 2.0, 5.0 and 10.0 by exo terra.

How close did the chameleon with closed eyes sit to the bulb?
Yes, avoid the twisty bulbs, also known as Compact Fluorescents or CFLs. Choose linear tubes (RepitSun if possible, alternatively ReptiGlo)
or use metal halide (with caution)

The tube light was outside of the cage and she would sometimes sit very close to it by walking onto the screen up to the light, so I guess she got quite close.
Ill have to go check out petstore for the lights you mentioned and to get a good price because here they can cost the same price that you would pay for a baby Veiled.

Howdy Tyrone,

Your safest bet is the ZooMed Reptisun 5.0 linear (not CF) tube of any length that works for on top of your enclosure.

If your chameleon reacts poorly to a Reptisun 5.0 linear tube, even at a distance of 6"-12", then you may have something wrong with your chameleon rather than your UVB source .

Hi Sandra, I was curious if you may have meant Mercury Vapor or MV vs Metal Halide (MH). I have not really herd of MH used for uvb it is more of a grow bulb for plants. I have heard of MV used with correct distance is great for uvb.

Hey.
I will look for zoomed but I dont know if they sell that here, they probably will.

It actualy happened with all my chameleons that I tried it with, my older male a few months ago 2 females and a male that past away at the begining of the year and all of there eyes would shut.
But the females that had it would actualy try getting as close to it as possible like just a cm away from it.
Anyway I think Im going to have to try something like a 2.0 or maybe hang it 2'' from the top of the cage.
So the cham doesnt get to close.

You are absolutly right! I meant MErcury Vapour NOT Metal Halide (which is what I use in the greenhouse).

Reptisun 5.0 (linear) is the one most commonly suggested.
That's what I'd go with, unless the screen inbetween the bulb and the cham is particularily dense (blocking UVB)
