I was wondering if i need to buy a new fixture, the plastic piece that is under the bulb just cracked and fell off when i was trying to replace it . so do i need a new one or????

I am not sure what plastic you are referring to. Some fixtures are made for aquariums and come with a plastic piece that protects the lights from water; however that piece should be removed as it blocks UV.

There should be nothing between the UVB bulb and the animal except the screen on the cage.

UVB does not travel though plastic or glass, so if your fixture had a plastic cover around the bulb that will not need replacing.

how long has your chameleon been living with the plastic covering the bulb? That is not good and as the others have said, you have been blocking out the uvb if you mean the plastic is under the bulb.

If he was completely healthy before you got him, then there should be no problem now that there is no plastic covering the bulb/between the bulb and the cage.

I'm trying to clarify... if there is a clear plastic sheet that protects the bulb from over-spray, then it is a good thing it broke! As stated, this will not allow UVB spectrum to pass into the enclosure. Did the fixture come with your cham? If so, was the cover in place while being used? If you post a pic of your new addition, we could see if it looks like there is any reason for concern. ;) Plus we love pictures :p. Good luck with your new addition!

Thats right Olimpia!

Do Not replace that plastic.

I was ruining the UV getting to the animal.

Why does Zilla sell a UV light that blocks UV?

Do they want our animals to get MBD?

Cheers!
