  • Your chameleon- Male veiled, 2 months old.
  • Handling - Tried hand feeding but to shy, no handling.
  • Feeding - gutloaded crickets, dubia roaches, superworms, with carrots, oranges, Romaine lettuce. Calcium w/o d3 everyday, calcium w/d3 every other week along with multivitamin every other week.
  • Watering - I have a little dripper drips all day, and a misting system goes on every 3 hours for 2min. Plus i spray him with a water bottle twice a day, i have seen him drink a couple of times.
  • Fecal Description - whitedroppings, and brown.

Cage Info:
  • Cage Type - screen cage, 2x2x4. Ficus tree and pothos plant, 7 branches in all directions. 3 fake bushes for hiding.
  • Lighting - 24" fixture, with two Arcadia 12% UVB T5 24W.
  • Temperature - the floor is 65-72 degrees, basking spot 85 degrees.
  • Location - Leominster, mass.

Current Problem- I'm wondering if the UVB lightings to much for him? He's always sitting right under them(pics below) I've noticed his eyes have white on top of them. I'll try to get a pic of his eyes but it's not easy cause he just runs and hides.

That looks like he might've about to shed, it's hard to say in the small pictures... Maybe someone with better experience can confirm

I think 1 12% arcadia would be enough . Im sure Todd from lightyourreptiles.com would have a definitive answer for you. I assume he will be chiming in sometime soon

Measuring with my Solarmeter, a single 48" T5 12% Arcadia on top of a 60"H cage gives me single-digit UV penetration down to the floor level. In fact, I had to raise the lamp a few inches to keep exposure at the top to less than 50 microwatts / cm^2. Two such bulbs is probably a bit much. The UV falls off rapidly with distance from the bulb but the topmost branches might well be overexposed. The only way to know for sure is to measure it, but I'm pretty certain one 12% is enough for a 48" cage. You could always swap one UVB for a 6500K. The plants will like it.

I would only use one 12% UVB, and as stated, swap one out for a 6500k plant bulb. If your chameleon likes staying right under them, you may want to put an extra piece of screen between the fixture and the top of the enclosure to lessen the intensity. Those T5's can be intense!

Thanks for the replys, i did take one out and cut some branches so they don't go up to the screen. I'm looking to get a 6500 light for the ficus tree and pothos. Thank you all...
