if you use 12% get a uv meter cause the rays will be too strong at first and you can move the light closer as its uv rating decreases 12% are for experienced keepers for sure..

6% is fine if you feel comfortable enough after a year when you replace the bulb upgade but why spend money you dont need too but donot order 12% if you dont have a meter too reed uvb strength

OK..... so in your opinion what is too much? Readings in the shade can be in the 200's. I was pointing out that hood is capable of useing any T5 ho bulb;)

just want to mention that the hood is irrelevant, it only matters what your bulb is

that hood comes with a 6% bulb so you are good (remember you have to change your UVB bulb every 6 months!)

Yes I have read the threads & yes its funny how people react to a post at times:D the original question was did they need a starter for that hood? NOPE! Its built in and im sure the ballast is T5 HO. And the Arcadia bulbs can last MUCH longer than your Zoo Med or Exo Terra;)

Yes... the Arcadias can last a year or more. Also the Zoo Med can last longer than 6 months....... But it is recommended to replace at 6 months to be safe. The real truth is...... A Solar meter is a REQUIRED cham keeping tool, in my opinion;) Some new bulbs can be very weak and you could easily run a under powered bulb for 6 months ....... Not good for your pet!!! Also.. I tested some Zoo Med bulbs that were replaced and not thrown out yet and found to still be good. If you care about your supplimenting & Hydration you should also be very concerned about thier UVB... especially if you live where you cant get them into natural sun alot, like me.... Wisconsin:eek: Dave
