"UV basking"

Peter doesn't seem to enjoy basking... instead he just sits right under his UV light the whole freakin' day. Except when I feed him, he'll move around and catch all the food I put in there within seconds, then go back to "basking" under his UV.

Is it because I'm giving him too little, or is he just weird?

I Have noticed the same thing with my chameleon it is very odd. I was using a 60 Watt bulb and was getting 86 degrees and then I bought a 75 watt bulb and got readings in the low 90s and then he became much more active but he stilll came back to that spot frequently so I knew it wasn't too hot, I assumed it was simply because the rest of his cage is too cold. Hope this helps:D:D!

You guys are talking about two different things.

ChameleonKing1911 - You are talking about heat not UVB. Make sure you are providing your chameleon UVB as well as your heat bulb or you will have MBD issues in the near future.

xephyr17 - What type of fixture and bulb are you using? How far away from the bulb can he bask? What is your cage top material? A picture of your setup would help. Also how old is your uvb bulb?

I'm actually not too sure about what type of fixture I have, here... I got it from someone on cragslist. But it's a pretty large dome. The bulb is an Exo Terra Repti-Glo 5.0 compact bulb. New as of about 3 weeks ago.

He's got something like 6 inches from the basking spot. Both the heat and UV lights are sitting right on the aluminum mesh.

Check out the pics...

Thanks in advance for your help :D

P.S. #3 is heat light and #4 is UV light. In the other pics, the one on the left is the UV and on the right it's the heat. Thanks.
