I'm sorry I didn't notice the 18 months old thing.
If he is just green and no other colors and is a yemen, he's a she!
18 months- I'd probably pass on an 18 month old female unless I didn't mind risking a little money. Depending on care, she could be past her prime. Depending a lot because it is a female. In good hands with careful care and no breeding she could live a long while. If she's been fed a lot and kept warm and bred at a young age and produced lots of eggs, some females last only 2 years or so. The difficulty would be, the pet shop probably has no idea what sort of life she has led up to this point...
If she really is a male (look for heel spurs and banded coloration green and yellow or light and dark green rather than solid green color) then 18 months is still fairly young and he could be around for a while...
