URGENT! Please Help

My beautiful girl Rango - got stuck in her basking light - I have no idea how she got near it or how she did it - we made it far out of reach from her - She has burnt her leg to a shrivel and it looks like a piece of dry skin as a leg. Is she in pain? What can I do for her? Will it grow back? - Please help - I can't stop crying - I can't loose my baby.
 
Oh, poor little baby. She needs a vet. I'm sorry to say that it will hurt and it won't grow back, but she could recover and stay active and healthy if she gets good treatment
 
Thanks So Much - On my way to the VET now - I don't want to loose her - she is my world. Will she be able to adapt only with 3 legs though?
 
how did she get stuck IN her light? Do you have it inside the cage???! If your cage is screen she could have climbed up the sides and onto the top of the screen if that is where you have it. Please post a pic of your set up so we can help you on where to place your basking light. I am sorry your little cham got burned and hope she will be ok. let us know how things go.
 
Awe poor little one. I'm glad you are taking your baby to the vet. Please let us know how everything is after you get back from the vet.
 
A burn that bad is very painful. Think of burning your finger on the stove or something and magnifying it by a thousand. I'm not sure how she managed to get to her basking light but however you had it setup before you must absolutely without question get all light fixtures OUT of the cage so it doesn't happen again. No lights should have been in the cage to begin with, for exactly this reason. A serious burn can kill them.

I'm glad you are taking her to the vet and I hope that she makes a good recovery! Worst comes to worst she can live without a leg is necessary. I've even seen one that had the tail and a hindlimb completely amputated and it learned to adapt. Please keep us updated and let us know if you need help altering her setup! :)
 
Hey all - follow up from the VET - Dr said she is a little depressed and will loose her limb. She won't sleep so I am a little worried. We need to give her antibiotics to prevent infection and have to wait for the limb to fall off. She is too tiny to go into surgery. I am praying she will stay as strong and feisty as she is. Please all keep her in your thoughts and I will keep u all updated on her progress.

The cage is a big issue and will have to be re looked at. I will post pictures of the beautiful little girl. And the cage and would appreciate the guidance. She is mine and my boyfriends baby. We will do anything to help her and show her our love.

She at the moment won't go near me - but won't leave my boyfriends hand. I think this is fear or anger towards me but as long as she is comfortable.

Do u think we should place a heating matt in the cage for now instead of the light - I am scared she will fear the light now.

no heating pad.
they wont always move when they get too hot on those things.
can you post pictures of her.
was her basking light in her cage, not on it?
 
take pictures of her cage and we will guide you on what and what not to do. I am glad she has made it thus far and I hope she will continue to improve..
 
Definitely not a heating pad!! They can burn themselves much worse on those and they need heat from above. She shouldn't be afraid of the light becuse she will seek out the heat from it regardless and no light should EVER be inside the cage. Watch her closely for infection, make us she gets lots of water to drink and her antibiotics are very important. Hope she does well!
 
We bought the enclosure from our local pet store - the owner insisted that is was ideal for any chameleon. He told us to buy the enclosure and due to the fixture being inside we needed a 13w 5 UV globe and she would be perfect. We did not know any better being new to chameleon parenting we only thought we were buying the best. I feel so guilty and responsible for the pain I caused her. I should have realised she would eventually find a way to the globe. My boyfriend will be creating a paradise for her in the morning. Can anyone please give us pointers on the perfect cage. Please give me a link or post pictures of an enclosure perfect for her. Are we using the correct globe? The cage has a sprinkler system which sprays water on her and her plants. Is this ideal or should it be a mist? Please any advice on how we can help her would be appreciated. Thank u for all the messages. It is really appreciated.
 
Well due to the fact she is abuot to lose a limb. I would see how well she can climb first.
If she cant climb or stablize her body well, you will want a cage that is a bit longer than it is tall.

You will also want to put a towel on the bottom if she has trouble with falling.
get a reptiglo or reptisun 5.0 UVB bulb, tube or coil style.
get a regular house bulb, 40-100 watt, depending on what temps you get.
ideally, you want her temps at no more than 83.

you will need lots of sturdy branches and vines she can climb on.

MAKE SURE ALL BULBS ARE OUTSIDE THE CAGE. DO NOT PLACE THE BULBS ON THE MESH EITHER. KEEP THE BULBS AT LEAST 4 INCHES AWAY FROM HIGHEST BASKING BRANCH.

sprays how. like hard, or is it a list mist liek from a hand mister type?

What is a laying bin? I am using an exo terra multi vitamin powder supplement which I sprinkle on the crickets. The spray is a soft lazy drizzle. Would a dripping system work better? And will ensure the light is correctly installed outside. Thank u for that - that was really helpful. I don't have a picture yet and don't want to wake her - so I will take a picture in the morning and post asap. Is an ideal cage made up of mesh/netting and not of wood with vents?

I am glad to see her sleeping. I do hope she will try eat - I know for a fact she has not yet eaten today. The crickets are all still accountable for. Do u think its shock? Will she get her appetite back?

Female chameleons can lay eggs as early as 6 months of age. even when not bred to a male.
a laying bin is a 5 gallon bucket filled with washed play sand or organic soil, that is wet enough to hold a tunnel without collapsing, but not dripping wet.
it is used for the female to lay eggs in when she is ready.
a mister AND a dripper is ideal. this way she can drink even if you havent misted.
because shes so hurt, she may not eat for a whle, but they can go a few days without food, so just keep offering.
she should get a calcium without d3 powder on every feeding, a calcium with d3 for twice a month, and a multivitamin for twice a month.
what time is it where you are?


Just so you know the all caps was not me yelling, it was me making sure you saw it. not trying to be harsh, but dont want you to lost this cham because of a mistake.

Its nearly 11PM by me. So worried about her I can't sleep. But she is a strong woman and I know she will recover - by getting all the help with the messages - I know we will be able to give her a normal and comfortable life.

I really appreciate it and please highlight, bold, caps anything that is important. I don't want to miss a thing and want to only give her the best.

No problem. and her sleeping at this time is fine then.
I was concerend she was sleeping during the day. Im in the US, so no idea on time difference.

Some females have been known to lay eggs as early as 4 months, but this is rare.

tho when you can, post pics..
its possible we will need to alter the cage recommended normally to help her with the loss of the leg.
