Upgrading enclosure....your thoughts.

I am considering upgrading my juvenile's enclosure from a 18x30x36 to 24x24x48. Should I be concerned with any acclimation issues? Has anyone had any problems with chams adjusting to a new enclosure? Thanks.

i would think as long as your cham has places to hide among the plants and feel secure you shouldn't have any acclimation issues at all. I would just get the cage ready and make sure all your temps are the same before putting your cham in.

I upgraded mine at just over three months to a full size 24x24x48 and he loved it. He had been living in just the top half and now I think he really likes the added plants and space. No change in eating but I could tell he was a little more stressed out for the next day or two.

i upgraded mine to a 7.5ft tall x 5ft wide x 3.5ft deep, my adult female took right to it but its loaded with cover and live plants mostly familiar ones from its previous enclosure. basically anytime you can/havemoney to upgrade the size of your chams cage to accomidate its age might as well...

Upgrades and changes in enclosure schemes do not seem to stress mine out. She takes to it almost right away and takes food without delay. A few minutes after being placed in a new environment she will begin to explore all the nooks and crannies and seek out good hunting perches. The thing to remember is each chameleon will have a different temperament. If yours is calm and easygoing, it will probably take everything in stride. If your chameleon is very excitable or grumpy most of the time, it will likely take longer to adjust to a new situation.
