how long is the process of laying eggs, it seems like mine is plenty fat enouph to lay eggs but shes more concerned with finding a mate and running all over heck at all times when the light is on... suprisingly making her finally handlable, willingly came to my hand two times today.

anyway heres some pics im wanting to try and figure out how much longer till she lays...

any help determining this is appreciated or if anyhting just let me know your real life experiences how long did it take from the time you could see eggs in her to her laying them.

Its always difficult to determine the first time that they will lay eggs. Subsequent clutch dates are easier to determine. Indications of getting ready to lay are roaming around the cage, being thirstier, often (but not always) cutting down on eating.

ok well shes all over the place for the last week or two, eats half if that of what she normally eats....

having concern here now shes in the bottom of the cage digging in the f'ing paper towels, doesnt she understand i have a 5 gallon bucket of strate for her, im going to put her in the bucket next chance i get, ok i put her in the strate and she just took off out of it and up the tree. im lost here, how do i make her lay in the strate.....

You can't make her, she will when she's ready to. If she catches you watching she'll most likely stop. Cover her cage up and ensure you have provided what she needs and let her be other than feed/watering. If you search the threads you'll find that some members chams have gone 2-5wks to do their laying. I, along with others, have found a bin in the cage good until really showing signs of being ready (no eating at all, really roaming around, wanting out) and then move them into a rubbermaid garbage can to lay. I placed a uvb light across the trash can, sticks with vines for coverage on one side and mine laid same day, but she was very ready.

well as you discribe it mines ready to lay, my real question though is will she figure it out on her own, will she lay in what ive provided for her, things today show maybe not as she was digging up the paper towels getting as far under them as she could, i grabbed her and put her in the 5 gallon bucket and she ran out of it right away, now shes back to wondering around a mile a minute... i see you remove your cham and place it in something to lay once again is that nessesary will she figure it out what to do in mine without doing that. but yeah id say shes ready...

In my case I took my girl out after she hadn't eaten anything for a few days, was drinking non stop, she had been digging in her bin in the cage during the evenings only...it was the day I woke to still find her in the bin inside the cage that I took her out....I snuck a peak to see what she was doing, and found her digging in the trash can....https://www.chameleonforums.com/possibly-gravid-21454/

From what I've read on other threads I believe my girl was very quick and easier then most. I cannot say yours will be the same or different, but I'd check through some of the other threads in the breeding section and find the information that works for your situation.

anyway i have such a huge enclosure i could put a 20 gallon trash can in it no problem, drop right in...

so should i just upgrade my 5 gallon bucket or what

one benifit i was hoping to have with the huge enclosure is she can do everything she needs in there....

damn it man my cham is back in that bottom corner of its enclosure digging up the paper towels again, like shes going to lay on the paper towels or something.

she wouldnt do that would she?

From what ive gathered most like a large laying area like a full sized rubermaid garbage can. Wich is the only thing that works for me as well. It also provides awesome cover for them to feel secure in.

Those large totes ive used before as well when i didnt have a trash can handy.

k but will she be a dumbass and try to lay eggs in paper towels when you have a bucket of strate in there, if so i guess its time to remove her....

The garbage can i use is like 3' tall with a foot of layin material in there she has no choice she cant get out if she wanted to.

im asking about my setup, will she figure it out, if not i remove her now, but yeah shes on the bottom of my cage under paper towels doing god knows what right now, digging and crap.

A "dumbass" for desperately looking for a place for oviposition because her owner is not providing a suitable laying site? Your comments reveal just how little understanding you possess on the natural history and behavior of these animals.

Chameleons are not used to having to look for a bucket of dirt in which to lay their eggs in the wild-- it is out job to adapt and make changes accordingly to make such process as effortless as possible in captivity. If she cannot intellectually process the fact that a white bucket means a laying site (obviously), then modify your method, don't blame her for your lack of experience.

Unbelievable.

im trying to make sure i dont hurt her and she doesnt hurt herself this is the first sign shes had of looking for something to lay in... ive done all the reseach and that doesnt fully prepare you for it really happening.. when its happening for the first time you know nothing technically, you can only get so book smart the rest is experience

If she's not happy with the bucket in her cage, give her something bigger, put her in there and ensure she cannot get out. Mine was done the same day, but I've read others have stayed overnight in their digging hole.
Keep her hydrated if she stays in there for more than a few hours. If she starts digging a hole, let her be...she may very well dig a few test holes before she is happy with one.
