Update on Louie!

Things went well, the vet doesn't think it's systemic and doesn't like to stress reptiles more than he needs to so he gave us some drops to give him. 1 drop, 1-2x a day. :)

I also read last night that the uv lights are useless after 6-8 months [something I did not know] so we went out and bought him a new one, since we've had his as long as we've had him. ~1 year

We'll be ordering a new cage, all new accessories, with lots of plants/vines for him to crawl on next.

Do you know what it was that he gave him?

Mine goes in on Thursday for the same thing. I'll let you know what happens with him. Let us know if he gets better in the next few days.

I got the same thing a while back...it works well. Terramycin also works, and you should be able to get it over the counter.

What is the Terramycin for? Same thing?

I have to mention, he crawled out of the box we had him in on the way to the vet and as my husband was holding him he started rubbing his eye on his hand. So nasty looking..

Um...Terramycin is used for most infections. It works very well for eye infections, I always have a bottle around. When my cham had an eye infection the vet gave me gentamicin and told me if I could get ahold of terramycin to use it. Just wash the eye with warm water first. http://market.kingsnake.com/detail.php?cat=28&de=594152

some lights do go bad in that time, however some last longer. I invested in a "solarmeter" which evaluates the amount of UVB a source is putting out.

I have I think the 2.0 model. Found it on EBay for 45 buck-a-roonies...

I figure a good investment to save a little money down the line.

Glad to hear that your cham is on the way to being better.

Good luck

Howdy,

For those can afford it, the one to get is the Solarmeter 6.2 and the best price to buy a new one still seems to be from: http://www.beardeddragons.biz/solarmeter_6.2.htm at $160 shipped. The 6.2 is designed to give 10x more sensitivity than the model 6.0 which is designed to be most effective for much higher UVB levels (10x higher) than we deal with. But at $45 it sounds like a good buy remembering that low levels from our typical UVB sources will most often register a meter reading of 1 digit rather than 2 digits on the 6.2 meter. "24"uW/cm2 on a model 6.2 would show-up as "2" on the 6.0 meter. It's still better than not knowing anything at all about your UVB levels :).
