Update on Herbie

So after trying everything under the sea from varying feeders, changing temps, free ranging food, changing cup location, hand feeding, etc etc etc... I FINALLY got Herbie to eat... and oddly enough... I had to change his bulb to a compact UVB to do it (yes I know the risks but I haven't seen a problem yet and I've been using it since April)... I noticed his UVB wasn't as bright so I switched it with the compact I had lying around and IMMEDIATELY Herbie perked up and began to soak it up... Within 2 hours he ate 10 crix as if they were candy!

Just thought I would update the masses...

And switching it to a new reptisun wouldn't have worked? I wouldn't take the risk myself, but I don't have any old compacts lying around............I've got reptiglo for all mine at the moment, but have just recently seen the stats on light output. I'm definitely ordering reptisun next time..........

I should have specified a little better it IS a reptisun but the compact model... The bulb that wasn't putting out the right output was the reptiglo 5.0 linear 18"

Newer versions of Reptisun compacts are supposedly perfectly fine for chameleons, I'd still personally monitor him.

Definitely am very closely... It was all I had, I'm already replacing ALL UVB's on the cages with linear reptisuns just hit a rough patch monetarily You know how it is... Everyone wants something that comes from your wallet haha

I don't know much about the UVB bulbs, just that the repti-glo 5.0 is the way to go. My UVB fixture holds two, so I have two 5.0's in there. That isn't the same as putting one 10.0 is it?

No the output is equal between the two and even though I have two reptiglo 5.0 I do not recommend them unless your in a monetary pinch... Their lifespan is pitiful compared to say a reptisun 5.0 linear... I am switching for those... PLUS the reptisun's put out a brighter spectrum so its more "white" light than "blue" light if I'm not speaking out of my hind end lol... So you'll get a brighter cage too which is always a bonus... Hope that helps

Yea Texas, where you can only bring your cham outside at 8 in the morning for an hour....lol. its too bad 110 degrees wasnt the safe natural temp for a chameleon...

Totally haha and unfortunately your estimate of 5 months is well.... Over estimating by about 2 months... I had mine for 2 months and the output dramatically dropped... If you have any friends that work for petsmart they will be honest with you like mine were... On AVERAGE these bulbs have a healthy output for a maximum of three months... I know, pitiful... The reptisuns though will do you a good 5 months but each bulb is different and should still be checked
