Update: Eye Issue

I’ve been keeping a closer watch on Rango since I noticed his mid-day napping. Although it was eventually ruled out as hunkering down early due to the winter months being upon us, I couldn’t stop myself from peeking in on him from time to time.

As of a few days ago, I noticed that Rango seemed to be sleeping. When I got closer, I realized that he only had one eye shut and was, in fact, wide awake. His other eye is completely functional, but he tries not to use the other one. He’ll look at me when he senses my movements, but quickly close his eye after realizing I’m not a threat.

Is this maybe a stuck shed issue? He was shedding recently, and I’m worried that some skin may have gotten in his eye.

Here are some pictures for reference. Any advice helps… I’m worried about this little man. A lot of my concerns have been raised lately.

It’s so hard to tell when it comes to their eyes. He doesn’t have that inner corner bulge which usually indicates something like a keratin plug or something else stuck in there. There’s no drainage in the pics and you haven’t mentioned any. Obviously it wouldn’t be a vitamin A issue if your supplements are correct. How has your humidity been? Any problems with it being too low? Anything poky that he could have poked or scratched his eye on? Of course, a visit to a skilled vet is always the best action.

I had an issue around the beginning of winter with balancing humidity between day and night, since temperatures were a bit wonky. I quickly managed to fix it though, and I currently have a shower curtain around Rango’s cage that I use at night to trap humidity/moisture inside.

The only poky thing I can think of are maybe his branches? There was a tear in his cage once but I made sure to run my hand along the repaired area to make sure he wouldn’t get cut from it. They are real branches that i decontaminated and washed, so it might be a piece of the bark or something that’s bothering him? I’m definitely not 100%.
