Unreceptive/gravid Pixie!

This week Pixie has been showing different, darker colours! I've not had a Panther female before so not sure what to expect. @Davecameos has informed me that she looks gravid, but does gravid mean the same as unreceptive? I thought to start with her colours were to do with the heat we are currently experiencing here in the UK but she is the same colour all day in a range of temps until she goes to sleep.

Hi Tiff, What's her temps? It's been awhile since I've had a Panther female but to me those colors look gravid (has eggs) or stress colors. Can she see anything that could be stressing her out? She might just be going to lay eggs in the near future.

Gravid means with eggs. Unreceptive coloring is the dark colors like what is shown however she will not be so big or wide in the belly. Unreceptive colors will be displayed when a female is gravid and is introduced to a male. Pay attention to her actions and if she is on the bottom of the cage or digging you need to get a lay bin in her enclosure right away. Look up the Care Sheets on the forum and it will explain more.

Thanks Jann - her temps are usually between 83 -85 but spiked at 88 or 89 earlier this week (damn weather) This has now been recitified! Nothing has changed, no new pets, no new furniture, nothing at all that could be causing her stress. Same viv in same room.

Although she is my first Panther, I have kept several other chams in the past. She has had a lay bin in her viv since I got her in September. She's never shown any interest in it.

Did you notice receptive colours in the past weeks? She would have probably been glowong cream and peach?

Ah Tiff, I think she is just messing with you, Her colors could show she is gravid, but that is just a wait and see. If she is cooking eggs there is really nothing you can do anyway.
