Unable to walk?

We are home

She wouldn't have passed the eggs at all. I can't remember the name put the egg shell wouldn't form. So thanks for everybody that kept telling me to sort her out. She is a bit dopey and very reluctant to take her medicine but so far so good.

Has anybody got any guidelines about her recovery? anything to look out for etc etc?

She has to go back on Friday for a check up.

When they performed the surgery did they also remove the reproductive organs?

Im glad she made it out of surgery ok.


Just look for sleeping during the day, inability to walk properly throwing up, etc.

Oh i am so pleased she made it. As above for symtoms. Please keep posting even if you think the problem is trivial. The forum has given you the help you needed thank goodness. You have been on a rollercosta ride for the last 3 days. Time to have a good xmas.

So glad to hear it!! She will be much happier now. I commend you for getting her the care she needs even though it took a few vet visits to get her on the right track! That's the kind of dedication I wish I could see in all pet owners. She is obviously in the best place with such a caring owner like you! Hope her recovery is smooth and she's back to her normal self in no time.

I'm just glad that it was financially viable or she would have been put down. We have figured out that she has had more spent on her than the kids this Christmas ha ha.

I know its early days but she is definitely stronger. She is a little wobbly while moving but i think that is understandable. The nurse at the vets said that she is the nicest Chameleon they have seen, which is nice

Can anybody tell me the best way to open her mouth. She is on numerous medication but opening her mouth for all of them is becoming a struggle. She is ok for the first one but then she is very stressed.

You can try the credit card as described at begining of thread. I can get Popeye to open his mouth by gently pressing the corners of his mouth. If all else fails very gently pull on her beard. She won't like that so only do that if really everything else fails. Good luck.

If she eats in front of you or out of your hand then the easiest way is to feed her and while she's chewing or drinking water you can squirt the medications into her mouth while she's chewing on a bug. Then you don't have to force her mouth open at all. I've give liquid calcium and other meds to my chams this way. Alternatively, if the amounts are small you can use a syringe with a needle to inject them into a bug and then feed them to her directly. She needs to eat them quickly though if you do that.

Merry Christmas all.

She is not eating and so I can't quickly pop it in. She has not eaten since Saturday but I've just force fed her. I mashed up four locust and forcefully opened her mouth after the first bit she was quite receptive to more. Tomorrow I'm going to go to the pet shop for a variety of foods hopefully this will generate a feed.

She has loads of medicine:
Calcium Sandoz 0.5mls x 3 times a day
Baytril 0.04mls every other day
Duphalyte 0.5mls x 3 times a day
Hartmans 0.5mls x 3 times a day
Metacam 0.04mls x once per day

She is getting stronger. Today is the first time that she has come to the front, she does this when she wants to come out. She is still drinking plenty and pooing. I have noticed that she closes her eyes after the medicine for a few minutes. Plus when she is in my hands she has little grip. But, she is still able to grip branches even at the top of her viv. So maybe she is just having a rest.

So glad she is improving. Bug juice is great. I think crickets would be easier to mash down as there body's are softer than locusts. You might be able to get hold of calci worms, they are soft. If her grip is not that great you could lower her branches and put a soft towel on the floor of her cage in case she falls. You are doing a great job.

She is a lot better now. Still not 100% but we are getting there. She is pooing and drinking. She is eating but not on her own. Her back legs are getting stronger with today being the first day that she has lifted herself up on all legs.

The only downside is that she is losing weight. In the last week she lost 15 grams taking her weight to 82 grams. But, the vet is not concerned at the moment. We are going to increase her intake to slow it down.

Her medication has been cut in half and vet visits have gone to fortnightly.

So all in all things are going well
