UltraSun T-5 bulbs

Does anyone have any experience with these bulbs or know if they would be sufficient for my cham? Reason being i bought a double light fixture, but my reptisun bulb is about two inches too long, and the prongs are gapped farther. I could always use the fixture for a different viv in the future but Id still need to buy another double fixture.

I use the zilla desert series 50 bulb because it fits my t5 fixture. It is meant for desert dwelling species which isn't ideal, but the amount of uv radiation it puts out is actually a smidge less than a reptisun 5.0 bulb. With that in mind it will suffice to your needs. Also it has weird sizes that may be what you need.

Yeah i think the bulbs are actually 22", Ill consider that bulb being its easily available locally but i'd like to get some more input on that bulb as well

Howdy Michael,

Historically, the Zilla UVB sources have had some major issues. Their original production runs of the series 50 and, to a lesser extent, the series 25 produced light with a dangerous spectral content (UVB that was heading towards UVC and doesn't necessarily show-up on a Solarmeter 6.2) leading to eye problems and sometimes even death. They have since re-formulated their products but I don't believe that the final test results from the UVGUIDE UK have been published yet (I may have missed it though). Photo-kerato-conjunctivitis was the eye problem most often reported: http://www.uvguide.co.uk/phototherapyphosphor.htm . From time-to-time, reports still come in from keepers who have recently purchased the Zilla 50 or 25, who have chameleons with eye problems. It is not clear whether or not they purchased an old or a new version. It sounds like you are not currently having any issues so that is some good news. Just keep it in mind and be aware that any abnormal eye concerns may relate back to the Zilla UVB product.

What little I know of these bulbs they are intended to be used in aquariums and reef systems. With that in mind, they were designed to travel thru water, does that increase the "output" to a Cham because it is not passing thru water?

how about the Zoo Med Ultra Sun Trichromatic Super Daylight 6500K Fluorescent Bulb T8 17 Watt mix with reptisun 5.0?
