tums?

If it were me I would get what was made for them. I not sure that Tums has the right calcium. I use this, and it works for pygmy's.

yes this is it i can't get my hands on that till after christmas. will tums do the job?
I wouldn't use tums because of the things added besides the calcium--artificial colors, sweeteners, flavors. If you are stuck, get some plain non-chewable calcium from the drug store. You will be hard pressed to be able to grind it up finely enough though. I was surprised at the difference between the Repashy calcium--much, much finer--and the ZooMed calcium. They should be able to cope without calcium for a week.

Just go to the vitamin/supplement section and look for non-chewable (i.e. flavored, dyed and sweetened) calcium carbonate pills. Don't get the ones with anything else in it like Vitamin D. Just read the labels. I really doubt you will be able to grind them up to a dust though. I would wait until you can go to a pet shop. It is probably cheaper in a pet shop, too.

If there's a pet shop anywhere near to you, call and ask if they have calcium/mineral blocks for cage birds. You can use a rasp, file, or very coarse sandpaper to create plain calcium dust. This would work until you can get the "real" supplement dust.

You can use cuttle fish bone, anywhere they sell birdseed. Grinding into powder isn't that difficult. It's pretty much pure calcium.
