I'm down to my last 3 male baby veileds. I was hesitant, but told a pet shop I'd sell them one more... I know which two i want to keep most... but i'd rather keep all three! i have one thats really turquise, one thats got some lemony yellows, and the third has some reddish stress colorings. i told my wife we need all three primary colors, because with them we can make any color ...she's not buying it and i gotta sell one now and another later. It makes me curious which color male all of you'd pick. they'e like 7 weeks old and still dont have their stripes.

Don't sell to a pet shop. Sell in the classified section here. One of the members here will give your baby a really good home and you can see the pics they post and watch it grow up.

I guess i should have, but I'm still new to the forums amd wasnt sure if I could after reading the rules . Plus i'm a little weirded out by the whole mailing them out thing •_• I'm actually more curious about peoples favorite veiled colors than I am sad about them being sold >.<

I... Uh... hmmm.... you're logic is flawless.
ok, these were taken on a camera phone so the colors and focus aren't great. and the reddish colored one wouldn't turn really reddish, its his stess colors that do it, and i didn't want to try to make him stressed on purpose. omg and please don't think i'm ignorant and trying to make him turn red by holding him up to a red towel! it just happened to be there!

May I ask how are you keeping them and feeding them?
Do you use a spot lamp or what because they are big!

They seem a bit young to really make any call on what they will end up with..... at 7 weeks you could keep them another 7 weeks and get a better idea. at 1.5 months old they are able to be kept in one cage. (all three, if large enough)

Tell her its too soon. Maybe hit up Julie (chams1) she is local to you.

You will need to keep them until they are 4-5 months old to really know how they are going to color up, and they will change alot even after that.

Thanks for the confirmation, chameleonneeds! these were the three largest out of 32, i got the feeling they're a little big for their age but wasnt sure. I am using spot lamps on them. Their basking area is between 86 and 92 and i got a 10.0 uvb. I've been feeding them several small feedings of 1/4 inch crickets throughout the day, with one main feeding with cal: phos and vits dusting. um... they're in 36x18x18 cage next to their dad, with a board to block off half of it so they can avoid seeing each other when the want. Their dad is about 18in long. Those three were the best hunters. I do have one runt still that is now average 7 week size. I might just give the pet shop him instead of a big guy, y'know for the sake of the forum

Those are all siblings, and they all look entirely different. They did not look so different when younger though-or Lombardi would be living with me instead of Joe!
DO not dust every feeding with multi-vits or Vit D-you can cause a buildup in their systems.
I agree with whoever said do not sell to Petstores-you have no control over the lack of knowledge the buyer might have.

That really depends on the petstore though. The ones near me have vetting procedures for new buyers and ask questions. The one I got my cham from made it compulsery for me to get a book from the shop also and was very knowledgeable and helpful about chameleons, having kept them herself before.

I once saw her tell someone they wouldn't sell them a bearded dragon if they kept it in a 3 foot viv but would be fine with a 4 foot viv. She also rejected quite a few buyers of Pygmy hedgehoge (the most adorable sharp objects her)

I know a lot of places aren't like this and i've seen some less healthy looking chameleons in other shops (such as the one whos' staff told me not to get one as they're 'not for beginners'). Ironically, this shop gave no advice about keeping them and just warned me that chameleons can't be handled and are difficult to keep, stating that "bearded dragons and geckos are beginner reptiles". I personally don't buy this argument and I think it partially came down to the fact they weren't keeping them in the right sort of enviroment in the shop (standard display case type thing probably not more than 1 foot high with 2 chameleons in it, probably 4 months old) and assumed nobody else was better equipped to look after them.

oh nonono, i only used the vits every day during one outta their 3 daily feedings when i still had lots and lots of babies in one cage. I did this to make sure that everyone would get some throughout the week. some being worse hunters than others. I made sure to only use a light dusting so the super hunters didnt get too much. I'll have to check out your pics, Jul, I've only had one cham from a hatchling before and can't wait to see their changes! oh and about that whole thing about saving the three for the sake of the forums... i caved and sold yellow for an extra $20 >.<
