Topsoil for egg laying?

Can topsoil be used in a Tupperware container as an egg laying site for crickets?

Also, how can I avoid the crickets eating the eggs? I don't really want the hasle of taking the container out etc I want them to lay as many eggs as possible and by taking out the egg laying container I may reduce the amount of crickets that could have hatch etc.

Put screen on the top of your egg laying container, that way they can lay eggs but cannot get down in the soil to eat them.

Would a pair of old ladies tights work i could prob get some off my sis lol

I don't think that would work. I think they would be able to eat through it. Then they would lay in it, but the males might eat the eggs.

Hmm ok. So what are my other options what sort of screen do I need, The same sort of stuff you get with reptariums? I don't think I could get hold of anything like that...Also CAN topsoil be used?
