too much shade?

I have a schefferella tree very full with leaves. I was wondering if i should cut some leaves back or do chameleons know when they should come out of the tree and get more light?

They know, The will go to the basking spot when they want to warm up.

They will hide to just hide or cool down/escape the heat.
