Ok so I finally got my cham a T5 uvb light and I returned the duel lighting with the compact uvb and got him a deep dome basking light with a 100 watt bulb but I saw he was over heating can I jist use the uvb or do I still need the basking as well need help please...

100 watt bulb is way too strong... Remove this and get a 60watt regular incandescent household bulb. Just not one that is an LED version.

Ok the thing is he is at 80 with just the uvb t5 so 60 watt would be good should I go lower?

So a temp gun is only going to measure the surface temp not the actual ambient temp. It is not as accurate as using a wired temp gauge with a probe. You would tie this in at the basking branch below the heat.

I do not think your really getting 80 with just the T5. Reason why I say this is I run 3 on my cage that is a hybrid with solid sides and get 80. So I would get the new temp gauge and see what your real temps are.

But the 100 watt is most definitely too strong. If it is a basking bulb with the flat top then it is going to produced more focused hotter temps as well. 60 watt regular incandescent is your best bet.

Just a regular full incandescent bulb hun. And zoomed make a temp gauge with a probe. Most petco's and petsmarts sell them. They run about 10 bucks.

What is the distance from his UVB to the branch that the probe is attached to?

I say about 6 or 7 inches

Ok and it is a 5.0 UVB bulb right? So you need a measured 8-9 inches to the branch below it for the correct UVI level. So best bet is to lift the fixture 2 inches off the top since dropping the basking level would be harder.

I agree with @Beman the 100 watt bulb is definitely too much and your chameleon will do much better with a 60 watt
