After our trip to the vet where the vet manhandled Rocco's mouth open to look inside, which I kno had to be done.. But had me cringing the whole way through it..
He's been back in his viv a few hours now.and I thought id give him a wax worm as a treat for being a good boy..
HE CAN'T EXTEND HIS TONGUE ! I was like wtf!! He's tryin but its not working!!
:-( ... Could it just be because of the antibiotics? I hope they haven't broken him.... He had to.scoop it up with his mouth.. Heartbreaking !!

I'd give him a couple of days but if not better tomorrow I would rings the vets, by all rights they should take a look free of change since its there own doing

How did they open his mouth? Again like chameleonkev said it might be sore... I don't know why though. Keep us posted on how he's doing.

He held it between his fingers and kinda pulled his mouth open until there was a gap then wedged his.finger in.. Rocco was fighting against it obviously.. Nobody wants a.strangers finger in the mouth!
Goddd I hope your right :-( poor little man!

Yeah when he did that and with Rocco fighting he might've streched/pulled a muscle in his jaw... I don't know what else to say other than that or his tongue is sore from the event! :(

I'm just gonna hope he wakes up alright... If he's not then dunno.:-(.iv heard of people hand feeding there chams with bad mouths.. Just can't imagine!
Please get better roc!

I so hope Rocco gets better. A tongue problem is a major problem. I do agree if his tongue isn't better by tomorrow I would ringing up the vet. Please let us know. Poor baby it sounds like the visit with vet terrible for him. What was wrong to need to take him to the vet?

He'd been sneezing a bit so I thought better to be safe then sorry.. Thought it might have been a RI, my 'exotic pet specialist' said he could see no obvious signs of infection but gave hIm antibiotics anyway.. I was cringing the whole time he had hold of him.. I kno he's not as delicate as I think he is but it just seemed so excessive!
Iv just switched him off for the night.. Plenty of rest, thing is tho he was good as gold at the vets... Didn't stress or hiss..
Keep your fingers crossed everybody and I'll be sure to let you al kno.
Thankyou for the support :)

prying a mouth open with fingers isnt the way it should be done, IMHO.
hopefully its a temporary issue. Try not to worry just yet!

Your definitely not the only one! Specialist my ass.. Lol
just not sure how to administer the rest of his antibiotics.. If he even needs them!
Because no way am I putting him through that!

If you can get a small syringe & needle, you could perhaps inject the meds into the feeders. I believe this is the least stressfull method.

To get one of my chams to open its mouth, I sometimes have to gently but firmly put my thumb and forefinger over its nostrils. It should open its mouth because this is very annoying, or because it needs to breath. Be very careful about putting liquids into the mouth so as not to aspirate.

I actually use a similar way to check Kukui's mouth that Sandra uses. I stroke the front of his nose, right where his nostrils are. I don't cover them, but just apply a bit of pressure and stroke and he opens his mouth right away almost every time. Or, if I place my finger between his eyes and apply a bit of pressure, he opens his mouth too.

If neither of those work, I just put a finger on either side of his mouth and apply some downward pressure. I've never pried open his mouth, but Kukui is also an unusually friendly chameleon most days and pretty much does what needs to be done.

No change this morning.. He seemed to fire a little better at bugs in my hand but is pretty useless when trying by himself :-( off to ring the vets..
I was worried about aspirating aswell.. I just wanted to put them on a bug.. I hope its just a stress thing :-(

my veiled female has the same problem her tongue only extend for 2 inches. Dont know why.

I would like to know more about this keep us inform. hope he get well

Open my chams mouth I apply a small amount of pressure on the sides of his mouth/ jaw and they all open up, I'm done in no time to cause least stress posible

Thanks everybody me too.. He's back to the vet tomorrow :-(

That's all roc can do too.. About two inches.. He seems alright in himself tho at the minutes.. Just in the gardenenjoying some rare UK sunshine.

I was so hoping that he would be better. If that vet is really rough with him this time you may need to ask nicely if he could be more gentle. Please let us know as soon as you get home. I will be praying for the best.
