Tongue Problems

I have had a Fishers chameleon for over a year now and so far it has been smooth sailing with no issues. However today when I went to feed him, I noticed that he was not fully extending his tongue like he used to. He tried multiple times to get a meal worm but kept coming up short, so he moved in closer and then got it. Other than this he is acting normal. No noticeable weight loss, decrease in activity or anything else out of the ordinary. What could be causing this?

Also, it would not hurt to take a look inside your chameleon's mouth and see if you see anything that looks abnormal.
