I really hope he’s ok but I’m not a vet so the best thing to do is take him to a good reptile vet.

Signs of respiratory infection...nose raised in the air, mouth open , raspy breathing, more stringy saliva than usual, etc.

IMHO (and please be aware that I'm not a vet), the chameleon would not be sitting with his mouth shut and the tongue stuck jut between the lips because that would block his berthing more. Just my opinion.

Update - He’s been completely normal for as long as I’ve seen today and even ate a cricket this morning shooting his tongue. I also have checked multiple times for visible signs of RI and don’t see much problems.
