Lilly, how will Tommy reach the dripper? A horizontal vine/dowel/branch up there perhaps. I know it'll drip on the plants below, but it cant hurt to give him direct access. Tommy is bigger than the other, larger water intake, leaf moisture may not be enough.
Thanks for the tip, but I'm not hopeful of finding a cheap one in the UK! I do have an infrared digital thermometer, but a dual one would definitely be good. I'll have a look tonight - going to the hardware superstore to get a taller schefflera so I might find one in there.
I bought 2 thermometers on ebay for not much more than about £2.50 each.
I also have an Exo Terra Digital Thermometer which was about £12 and I use them alongside a dimming thermostat. I recommend getting at least 1 fairly decent one (i.e Exo Terra digital) and place it under your basking spot and then a couple of cheap ones to place in less crucial areas. Although the temperature gradiant in a wooden viv is probably less dramatic than you would get in a mesh cage.
Also, nice viv. I reckon you could do something more interesting with the vines/pieces of wood going across though. I have combined bamboo, plant sticks and fake jungle vines together to create some interesting effects.
You know, I have some bamboo rods in my viv, and I did wonder why sometimes Hugo seemed to slip! This makes perfect sense! I thought that if you were to use branches from trees they had to be treated first, to avoid possible infections?

As long as the limbs don't have sap and other oozing and they're not toxic like Oleanders they should be ok. I think fruit and nut trees make the most sense to be safe.
