Toby, he was just too big. Make sure it is not too large for your Cham. The larger crickets sometimes have the jagged scissor back legs that I hear can harm the mouth area.

As a general rule, make sure feeders are smaller than the width of the gap between the chameleon's eyes.
Sometimes they just have eyes bigger than their belies though! I ended up playing tug of war with Monty and a meal worm the other day! I didn't realise it was a bit too big until he had zapped it, but there was no way he was letting me have it back! He managed fine in the end, but lesson learned for me!
