The other day I went into my local pet store to buy feeders and browse around.
Then the owner does what most enthusiest do, which was asked what i kept and what i needed for them. Then i started talking about my breeding pair of jacksoni since its the most exciting thing ive got going anyways.I brought up the fact that maybe if my female is indeed pregnant then id be interested in selling some est. cbb to him.The convo was great until...
...until this guy brings up and says " you better keep some females as hold backs to breed because you know females die after laying " , like as if all females just up and die after laying.

I really want to respond with " your females died because they were probably all dehydrated "

But i just pretended to agree, got my bugs and left. No babies are coming here'!To tell you the truth, I havent heard such bs in soo long and this myth since i was 15.

I'm pretty sure the dont die unless someone screws up. That guy might be a little.... Yeah good choice not selling to him

I'd would have said well then its a good thing that Jacksonni dont lay eggs bro. "they give birth to live young". So no worries! Just shows the guy didnt know what the hell he was talking about. Typcal pet store employee/owner.

This would have given you the perfect opportunity to not correct him but to wait a minute more in the conversations and say something out of the blue like:

"The problem with Chameleon keeping is all the misinformation out there! I've seen idiots use a non-ventilated aquarium, or put bowls of water in an enclosure, its just the bad husbandry that causes irresponsible myths like all chameleons will die after 2 or 3 years, or females will die after giving birth, it just makes me sick this stuff is accepted because people don't know how to care for them!"

Or something to that effect, especially pick out any poor practices he may be guilty of. What it does is drive home that he needs to rethink his husbandry practices and makes him feel like an idiot. Plus you get to watch as it dawns on him what you're saying and tries to formulate a response that won't make him look even stupider. It may seem mean (and it probably is) but people stop listening the second you tell them they are wrong unless they knew they were wrong to begin with and doing it like that will not tell him he is wrong but will get the information in his head.

I've done similar many times at pet stores over the years and have found that it is more effective than lecturing them on husbandry practices.
