The weirdest thing yet

Every day, I feed my clutch of baby quads silkworms. Today, they were particularly eager for their silkworms. As one of the bigger ones was munching on the one he had snatched up, another snatched it right out of his mouth. Yup, perfect aim. Lucky he got the timing right or he might be missing some of his tongue.

It happens...and sometimes they even get their tongues tangled...and that can be bad.

OMG that would be awful! No wonder they are a bit hesitant to snap up a bug someone else is eyeing.

I once saw a baby try to snap up something and misjudged the distance. Baby tongues are a LOT longer than adult tongues. Baby shot his tongue out into space--a good 6 inches for a baby that was only a few grams--and it missed, and then fell, swinging like a pendulum off the little bone in the tongue. It took the baby a while to pull it all back in, but it was really sad to see that tongue swinging back and forth.

I had one rip a hole in the side of the tongue when it was pulled at an angle against the tip of the hyoid spike in the tongue when it got the tongue stuck on something.
